thats shit.

i doubt many people will stick to 50 unless there is average speed camera's.

most people dont stick to 60, let alone 50.

i know i wont stick to 50.

on the main A road i use, most people do around 70 upto 80ish.

It depends which roads they apply this to really. It says the safest roads will remain 60mph. There are some winding little lanes and stuff round here which are national speed limit and I know a few people who have lost control at 60. One lad even flipped his car. I know it comes down to knowing your limits again but some people feel like they have to do 60 round blind hairpin bends if the sign says they are allowed to....

50 is so fucking boring. Long staright road, no traffic.

I literally had my head in one hand and wheel in the other. When it came to the 30 section the car didnt want to do less than 40 and felt like I was going to stop.

man you should go to islay... crazy straight road between Bowmore and Port Ellen. It was a military road two lanes some little jumps and its about 15 or so miles long but there is one hell of a sharp corner at the end of the road when you get to port ellen

Tbh no matter how much they lower the speed limit there will still be thousands of casualties every year, people will and always will speed regardless of whether a metal signs tells them otherwise.

Even with speed cameras unless they plant them over a whole stretch of road people just slow down for it then speed of again.

Wow I thought that was some exotic island somewhere, then I realised it was in Scotland.

I so want to bomb down that road now haha

stevie_m
8th March 2009, 11:26
done it a few times it is a beautiful island. wish i had took pictures of it. the road i was talkin about is the low road beside the airport, the high road is just a dirt track but still fun on a land rover

stevie_m
8th March 2009, 11:28
nothing like a little 2 lane road to bomb along to wake you up. some really good jump points also on it

Do Toyota's go over 50?

Such a boring company now. Nothing decent since the old Celica and Supra.

Just like Citroen with the Saxo.

there are certainly some roads/lanes that could do with a lower limit.

just because they are out in the sticks they get a 60 limit but only an idiot would do 60.

i dont really care if people are stupid and want to kill themselves but i suppose its when they injure or kill other people that it causes a problem.

the government just needs a better way of classifying the roads.

the main A road i use is easy to do 60. it even opens up to 2 lanes at times to allow you to overtake. its not a small lane. hopefully they wont lower the limit on road like that.

Exactly. You drive to the road type and condition. I feel every little bump in the VTS where I didnt in the 1.0 so I slow down a little bit, feels like I could lose it ant any point sometimes.

if it came to that id pack in driving and get a push bike

8th March 2009, 13:32
Bullshit that is. Round by Hitchin loads of A roads are already 40mph and it's the most frustrating painful driving in the world. Especially when you get stuck behind someone doing 30 just to be on the safeside.

Interesting comment at the bottom....
When the speed limit was reduced from 60mph to 50mph in New Zealand the average No of deaths INCREASED. Then when it was returned to 60mph in 1985 after an increase in the first year, road deaths returned to a slightly LOWER level. Explain that then.

doesnt bother me one bit as long as there's no dickheads tailgating me because im trying to stick to the new limit.

average speed camera's have 2 sets. one set takes your reg and speed as you pass it then a few miles down the road the other set do the same. then it works out how long you took to cover the distance between the two.then compares it to the time it should take at the speed limit. if your quicker you get a ticket. or something along those lines.

as for the main question no i couldnt 3 national speed limits for main roads how are you supposed to work out what roads are the safer ones so you can do 60.

Saamuell
8th March 2009, 14:45
Half the country roads i cant get 60mph anyways :homme:

almost...

speed = distance / time

the camera's recognise your plate and just time you over the distance.

if this is true and going to happen, then i AM NOT going to get a VTR. Whats the point if you can't even travel any faster then the car in front nowadays?
