A new line of racy Renaults wearing the classic Gordini badge will be launched to take on the growing band of premium sporty ‘minis’.

Starting next year the revived Gordini badge will feature on a hot version of the latest Twingo – followed by Clio and Megane Coupe Gordini models that it’s hoped will provide a brand halo in the fashion of the Renault 5 Gordini Turbos produced between 1976 and 1984.
According to Car magazine, the Gordini hot hatches will sit above the current range of Renaultsport models, although Auto Express suggests the Gordini models will be more ‘mainstream’ in the manner of the Mini Cooper and Alfa MiTo GTA, leaving room for future Renaultsport models to move into more hardcore performance territory. Intriguingly, both sources credit their info to Renault VP of global marketing Stephen Norman - either way, those of us with fond memories of those early 80’s Turbos will be pleased to see the classic blue and white Gordini colours on our roads again
Meanwhile, Renaultsport has just announced its 2009 ‘Enthusiast Days’ calendar, which includes relatively affordable track days at three UK circuits.
The Renault Sport Experience program will be hosted by Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Cadwell Park circuits at various times – log onto www.renault-sport.com if you want to find out more.
