Why does everyone have a saxo? What made them have one?

I was just wondering as all my mates have vw's mainly golfs and im now wanting a golf really bad. Not sure if its because of them or not. I always wanted one but i go to every show and meet they got to and seem to apprectiate what everyone with a vw does its just so different.

What attracted you to have a saxo?

I had no option... i wanted a vw pick-up as my first car but not enough money so had to stick with the saxo ... the pick-up i wanted has 2 seats and thats not the best thing to have when you want to get places with more than 1 friend lol so im happy with the saxo :y:

Was cheap to buy, and is cheap to run.

Gets me from A to B, so why bother getting anything else til it finally packs in?

The salesman in the PPeugeot garage was a cock so for my first car I bought a 1 year old VTR with 10k on the clocks.

Since then I've had another 3 vtrs and the vts

steviee90
15th March 2009, 19:44
i think they are quite fun to drive, sporty but not stupidly fast, teaches you how to drive a bit better aswell for when you do get something bigger and better, jap or german :)

Missus was learning to drive, couldn't insure her on my previous car.

Even she doesn't like it, well, gets sick of the little rattles and all that bullshit you get with a french pile of wank.

because a 106gti for the same condition costs too much

15th March 2009, 21:11
With me its a bit of predicament. I would love to sell up for something a bit more modern, but cause were going ahead with buying our own place theres no way I could sell up and buy something newer that offers the same drive.

Shame really as I do love my GTi, but Im more forced to "have" to keep it. Should have stayed at home with me mum and dad lol.

Seems to be that they are cheap to run thats why everyone has them.

Ok now you have one do you want something else?

I want something else now a golf, i hate the image that everyone has with saxo drivers and that if you want to do something different people wouldnt like it where as if u do something different with a vw people love. I just love the vw scene, basically go as low as u can and something thats different

im not really into cars, in the sense I must have the latest and greatest, or that there is any status associated with what car you drive.

dadsayer bought my first car for me which was cool, then I realised I quite liked the simplicity of the saxo and the fun factor. the first saxo got a bit sick, so I sold it and bought another.

my old one was given to me as it was mums old car. after insurance went down because i really loved it i decided to get a faster one. now i wish i could have waited and bought a bmw lol.

No its a good little car, people that say cheap to run must be loling. either that or they havent owned one long enough

they are cheap to run though???

cheaper than a bmw that's for sure.

Ben_L
15th March 2009, 22:23
the amount of money i spent on my old car where it kept breaking made it expensive. bmw are just bit more reliable

The 1.4 cos i drove past and thought it looked nice so bought it, the VTS because i love the 1.4 to drive but wanted something faster so now have both :D

5 years on my vtr, hardly ever went wrong, didnt cost alot to maintain at all.

I Dont drive like a tard to kill it mind.

my vt'R' is a bit different, more unreliable costs more, but I expected it from the state of tune its in.

15th March 2009, 23:00
I bought my first one was purely because the 106 on the forecourt was too expensive and a white sax was just being prepped and I liked the looks of it.. at the time it was the car within the same insurance bracket (same cost to insure) as other smaller cars but performed the best, best handling, best performance (lol), best MPG, best luggage space, and cheap to run. After killing that one I wanted another.

I've stuck with this sax for 20 months now and enjoyed driving it everyday... Whenever something goes wrong its always a minor fault and it always makes the car more interesting (gives me something to do on a day off) Saxo's are incredibly easy to work on and the parts are very cheap to buy and replace. Plus they handle brilliantly and are best in their league (within the same price range, for same mileage, insurance and engine size)... shame about the safety though ;)

15th March 2009, 23:03
More because i needed a car and it was cheapish and not too far from me, so i could just walk over and drive it off!

its soon grown on me, i enjoy driving it much more than what i've owned prior!

Karl
15th March 2009, 23:34
I like 'em cos they cost naff all to run in comparsion to some cars..

Clio Sport ~ £900 for a cambelt.

VTS/GTi ~ £150

(dealers prices)

so many parts floating about cheap for these too.

Offer a good bang for buck factor.

16th March 2009, 08:47
why do i have a saxo......

because i like the way i have to shell out money constantly to fix things that go wrong, only for something else to go wrong straight away as soon as its been done.

i like surprises you see, saxo's are laaaaaavly

16th March 2009, 08:49
My cousin sold me his 1.1 desire for next to nothing. Then i bought Souless's old vtr as i wanted something quicker but couldn't see anything better for the money

16th March 2009, 18:09
Because ive wanted to own a vtr & vts since i was like 13, they still look really good today especially modified in the 'right' way, running costs are cheap and most importantly they are funnn

When I was 15 I once went to a garage with my dad to get his car serviced. On the forecourt I saw a gold mk2 VTR and my little brother and I agreed that it was absolutely gorgeous, I begged my dad to buy it for me and he kindly said no.

A few years later I was sure I'd have a VTR of my own (group 7 insurance, yet 0-60 in under 10 seconds and nimble handling while looking cool) and then I managed to get a quote on a VTS and thought "well why ever not?" I went out and got a VTS in wicked red, absolutely adored it.

When you're young, Saxos especially the VT* models are everything you could want: cheap to buy, look good, nimble handling, economical, quick and yes they have some street-cred/ boy-racer appeal (didn't mean I was going to race, I just liked the appeal) its very true lol, I couldn't ask for anything else at 19.

Most popular car for lexus lights as i've always wanted these on my car!

16th March 2009, 18:33
Because i'm really stingey and i already had loads of bits on my 106(suspension kit, exhaust, wheels etc. still haven't put everything on yet) so i thought get a 16 valver and it'll have a few goodies to go straight on. I can't be that stingey though if i'm willing to pay group 14 insurance prices. Dunno know why 20bhp and a pair of headrests in the back make it twice the group of a vtr.

16th March 2009, 22:07
I wanted a 106, but the VTR seemed like a fair bit of car for not a lot of money or insurance or running costs and I couldn't seem to find a 106 that would get me the same.... I like the fact it's small and nippy, but has a decent amount of power. I've gone from a Vectra (same size as a Tank. Fact.) to the Saxo, and it's just nippier, easier to park etc, easier to handle, much more fun and chilled out.

started a year or 2 back mate had a 106 gti then i found out the vts was actually quicker than the 106, then i lost in a race straightline in my mg zs 180 and that had engine mods. that started me thinking came to buying my new shaped vectra sri standard car, then my cousin bought an ace vtr and my mate bought a vts, id sold my mg to my mate i know we was 5 up but the vts started pulling away down the m6 at over 100 to 120 till about 130 where the mg took back over.

i then decided to sell the vectra c sri and get a nice run about with some poke and to save for an evo 7 later in the year. the idea was to just do cheap mods and run this round.

i then came accross this vts thatd been cammed etc and the rest is history im not worried about saving up and im going to plough everything into the vts. maybe keep it a few years. ive gotr big plans for this now.

16th March 2009, 23:21
I seen it at a garage for £1500 and thought a bit steep so went a few weeks later £700 so for a first car i thought it would be ok, plus insurance wasnt too bad :S everythings worked perfect than, now i sometimes regret buying it because of the rattles and shit, i could of had a punto ffs, not that there better or good. ?

16th March 2009, 23:23
When i was about 15/16 my mate had a vtr at 18, and it looked so smart. Couldnt afford the insurance on a vtr so got a westcoast.

I made my options of either:

corsa 1.7tdi
306 XN
106 quicksilver
106xsi
saxo westcoast
saxo furio
vw 1.3 driver
jetta lol
bedford rascal, as a joke for a year.

and got the westocast in the colour i wanted too :p

i just wanted a car that was gonna fall apart after every 50 miles, not to mention 1 that would get me pulled off the police if i dared to have at least 1 person sat in the back ;-)
