Tried to order my 1000D this morning from Currys with a discount code i have. It wouldnt let me do it online so rung currys order line and it turns out they have none in stock and wont be getting any more in either. This is the case also with Tesco's.
does anyone know why?
ideally i wanted it for the end of next week but doesnt look like thats going to happen now.

Reading reviews, I am in the same position of wanting a cheaper SLR.
Canons, its either the 400, 450, 1000 or a used 20/30.
The 1000 seems barely much better than the 400 aparently.
Mark51
16th March 2009, 11:16
the 1000 is replacing the 400 as the 400 is not sold anymore mate

being discontinued, im not too sure wouldnt doubt it though, its wank ... sales are going up in prics to and stock is getting harder to get hld of due to exchange rate £ to Yen ... so when all stock is gone in your retailer, they wont get it in or they will put the price up and pay the exhange rate for it.
the 400D imo is the best entry level digi SLR that canon have released, next to that the 50D if you can stretch upto that.
they will bring new cameras out / through design every 8-12 months...
Ex Canon Rep :y: and house mate still works for them! av it.

I thought it was an 18 months life cycle?

depends on the market ads, remeber that they have compitition with Nikon and sony mainly, and they have reduced their cycle so canon need to compete... they released the 40D produced shit loads, then discontinued them about 4 -6 months later because of the new processor and 50D was being prepared. but made enough to keep sales going, and didnt release info on the 50 until last year Focus exhibition at the NEC.
same with the 450D had a massive hype abotu it, but was only prodcued for around 6 months before they released the 1000D , but was mentioned about 11 weeks after the 450D was on sale!
they are needing to bring out a new entry level slr with a newer processor ... i think its basically going to be similar / on par wit the 50d squeezed into something smaller and the once again shoddy 18-55 is lens.

the xxxxD is the basic SLR
the xxxD is the novice SLR
the xxD is the hobbiest SLR
yar?
the 1000D wasn't a replacement for anything, just the start of a separate range altogether.
50D came out in september 08 the 40D came out september 07, which was quite a thing as the gaps between the 10D, 20D and 30D had been 18months
sure of it.
Tontsy
20th March 2009, 17:26
general sale dates will have a bigger gap yes, but you can pre-order months in advanced and they are being produced months before that again. with constant design in progress.
unless your talking about things like the 5D and 5D Mk II .. thats years.
the 1000D was to fill a space in the market, but to initially replace the 450D because they had nothing to superseed it with. call it what you wish replace ment or new range together . its their best of both worlds. but untill then the XXXD *350/400* was the basic / entry level. *the 1000 was the compition to go against a sony at the time i thinkkkks.*
im glad this thread is about canon and not a sony :y:
release dates are crutial to keep profits and sales up all year around. unlike fools such as nikon which release cameras which are already on the market, jsut call it a different model name! because their sales were crap at the time!

interesting stuff!
pretty sure the spec of the 450D is better (marginally) than the 1000D.
like better noise handling, liveview, more AF points etc etc???

Is that why you use EF-s type lenses on FF bodies? ;)
Tontsy
20th March 2009, 17:53
like said, was meant to be best of both worlds, to fill the gap and to replace. it has its pros and cons about it. depends how much you want to go about it, but you need to think of it fro a retailer / manafacture and a customer side to see all the points that are affected by it... remeber the 450 was emant to be an upgrade to the 400 yet the 400 is still better than the 450... jsut becaus its a newer model, doesnt make it better all round.
its all about pros and cons. . . they need to release so they can sell the new product but still sell the previous too . think of it from a manifacture / profit side of thigns.

if you want a wide effect... why not ?
its the same principle of using digi lens's on a film slr.

because it vignettes badly.

each to their own tastes, i personally like a bit of vignetting in some images.
and so do other people, else there wouldnt be a patch for it in CS ? ... right.
i dont get why people have to try and sound like smart cunts and to try and prove some kind of point on a fucking forum ? personal opinions and that, why not, but pure cuntish attitude is jsut pointless, it makes a thread not worth reading.
wat you might like about something ,i may fuckin hate and vice versa yeah. its individuality you tit.
