hi mate im having same probems, have you tried the sensor next to the trotte body, or check wires havent come loose, maybe HT leads, crank position sensor, try repacing the air temperature sensor, you say youve ceaned the icv? and it still does the same?, hmmmm maybe a whole repacement of throttle body position sensor?

see what you get mate

This is such a common problem, try changing the temp coolant sensor as it is one of the top 3 culprits, worked for me.

ICV, coolant temp sensor, as mentioned above really, cheap enough to source new or second hand as well

i forgot to mention i put a new ICV on today which cleared the error codes but it still keeps doing it so do you reckon you its the temp sensor, if so where abouts is it in ze engine?

HELP! someone has to help me the car is doing my head in! ive been trying to fix the problem mentioned above with the car revving itself and im stuck. ive tried 2 idle speed control valves as well as taking the throttle body off 3 times to try and fix the vac leak if it had one aswell as resetting the ecu! ive got a new temperiture terminal sensor thingy coming tomoz, if that doesnt work i dont no what will. any ideas would be really helpful.

manifold air pressure sensor causes revving too

so that could be a culprit

gouldy87

diagnostics has come back with no error codes mate. ricky checked that one aswell yesterday. any other ideas?

where is the coolant temp sensor? and maybe it is your map sensor mate?

gouldy87
19th March 2009, 20:46
on the side of your block under your air filter. and there is no error codes or fault codes on any sensor now at all. MAP sensor went once, error code popped up, changed the sensor, cleared the error codes off. no codes at all. thats why i cant work it out at all mate. its baffled me!

jdizzy
19th March 2009, 20:49
what colour is it mate?

gouldy87
19th March 2009, 20:56
blue matey. it has a plug on one side and a brass nut on the other. becareful when you undo it as its under water pressure from the rad (we found out the hard way). although i noticed you have a mk1 VTR and i dont think that the sensors are the same as the mk2 VTS mate.

my east coast 1.1 is doing the same.ive had a new idol speed control valve fitted and it was fine for about 3 days now it jst does the same.u start it up and its fine untill it gets to half revs then it jst revs itself on and off.wen u try and drive it as soon as u come off the bite it just jumps forward as if it were to stall.wen uve got it going and ur away if you come off the acclerator it jumps back and wen u press the pedal again it jumps forward.its really starting to annoy me and i havent got a clue wat you lot are on about all these sensor things.

sensors are what tell the ecu whats happening in the engine and it adjusts certain perameters to suit. basically to make the engine run how itts supposed to

My cars doing the same, does yours sort of die and make a weird noise when you're putting your foot down and then vibrate lots and then shoot off? Is this the same problem?

OK, I have just bought a 1.1 saxo 1999 spree from the auctions for my daughter to learn to drive in. It is a pretty mint car except, whilst on a lesson with her, it started to kangeroo and rev by itself. I have it booked in for a cam belt change as I bought it from the aution and it did not appear to have ever had it done. whilst it was at the garage, I asked my man to look at the revving problem. He told me that it needed a new Idle Control Valve. Did a bit of web research and discovered this is a common problem. A new part was £63 + VAT. I managed to source from a breaker on the internet a complete new injector unit for £36 including VAT and Delivery.

Initially, I just put the ICV on the car. Took it for a test drive and it still did the same. So, tried putting the ICV back on the complete new unit and put it all on the car. Test Drive, still the same. Then tried disconnecting the battery for 10 mins, reconnecting and test drive again. Result - Fixed. Test drive for about 30 mins and no problem. Hopefully this will do the trick. Apparently, if you fit a new ICV, you need to disconnect the battery and reconnect after 10 mins to allow it to reset itself.

Give this a try and see if it works.

Good luck

yea mate new battery 8 month ago but it has recently had a twin fan wired into it. do you think its an electrical problem to do with that?

i took it back down to ricky p today and he has had another look at the car. it turns out that the original problem was the temperiture coolant sensor. the car kept reviing itself due to a shit spurious idle speed control valve pictured here-

http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/oo156/gouldy87/Image039-1.jpg

if you look at the top of the valve where the rubber end is you can see that the rubber part has a small step in. its is not supposed to have! the idle speed control valve from citroen is tapered and fit snug up when fitted. the spurious valve being shaped like this was causing vac leak in the throttle body thus letting loads of air in after the sensors, which caused a very very confused ECU which then flooded itself and the car ran like a bag of shite. my point is here do not use spurious valves/sensors when trying to fix your car as they are not made to the same quality and will not fix your car! as i found out the hard way. i hope this of some help as i ve seen alot of posts on this thread asking how the dodgey idle on cars can be fixed

ah right ok.so nobody knows how to fix this problem then?

yea i just explained it, replace the idle speed control valve but DO NOT USE A SPURIOUS VALVE! get one from citroen. (idle speed control valve that is btw)

right im off out to try out all these possible theories everyone has.hopefully we will get sumwhere and ill let you know if it fixes anything

i had the same problem with my 1.1 but put a rebuild gear box in last week and most of nocked it back on because it is not playing up any more and is running sweet as a nut for a car with 100k on the clock :0

the condition of the gear box would not have anything to do with how the car revs mate

My car is doing this, I have already changed the green sensor. It will rev itself up and down, randomly lose power, and when you come to a stop while its revving, it will stop going up and down, just sit highly.

Any ideas? Reset ECU? ICV? :(

gouldy87
26th March 2009, 18:26
try the ICV mate, when you put it on reset the ecu afterwards

Update! This seems to have done the trick :) Done about 15 miles so far so good, no revving, perfect idling.

Fingers Crossed Eh?

Adge
30th March 2009, 13:26
Edit, now revs are not up and down, just constantly over revving like i get cruise control in 1st and 2nd :(

Any more ideas?
