Well, finally decided to do a progress thread, as i could do with some help with ideas etc.
so this is the car when i bought it while still learning around 8 months ago
http://i43.tinypic.com/1fzarr.jpg
Completely Standard, bought from a neighbour with a family therefore knew it hadn't been abused

First things first
after looking around on Sax-p i liked the idea of black badges, so i set off and did those:
http://i44.tinypic.com/2h4ks2p.jpg

Nothing really much for a while after that, just focused on passing my test!

Kenco
18th March 2009, 00:08
Next thing was to sort out the diabolical standard speakers etc.
decided that i would stick to one company, which would be pioneer.
collected myself a set of pioneer front door speakers, pioneer headunit and pioneer sub, which although is nothing special, does the job for me.

After De-pinning the doors i managed to disconnect the central locking solenoid I took a trip to SparcoTom, who managed to fix it and then on became my local garage for parts and fixes.
after rummaging through his stuff he fitted a 106 rallye downpipe. no need for pictures, its a piece of metal :y:

Next up i decided to smoke the front lights

http://i41.tinypic.com/2q3vdw1.jpg

Not a great picture i know, but still, im sure you all know what smoked headlights look like...

so it stood like this for a while...

then came the snow, so i thought a picture was neccessary..

18th March 2009, 00:08
You passed your test now then?
car looks nice, alot of flat arches been coming through

Kenco
18th March 2009, 00:10
cheers mate, passed around 4 months ago
finally decided to make a progress thread
will get final pics up when i get round to it in a second!

Tom_Crx
18th March 2009, 00:15
Lol well done dude, jus started my progress thread too
take a peak (Y)

Kenco
18th March 2009, 00:15
anyway, next up i came across Adamski's thread on stripping his car
took alot of interest in his grille so i snapped that up :panic:, thanks again mate
much prefered it once fitted:

http://i42.tinypic.com/2lmtkjm.jpg

http://i41.tinypic.com/t86zd1.jpg

with this being done, it inspired me to get my arse into gear and look around more on the sax-p for sale section.

Kenco
18th March 2009, 00:29
With all this done, i decided to go ahead and grab myself an Ashley backbox, after looking around i decided this was the one for me.
initial fitment went pretty badly...

http://i41.tinypic.com/1j9stl.jpg

but after another trip to SparcoTom this was soon sorted

http://i44.tinypic.com/1626xc6.jpg

with this done i left it at that for a while.

Kenco
18th March 2009, 00:39
Next up Turbotom and I decided to do a trade; my mountain bike for a set of alloys and a pipercross induction kit.
with this deal done we fit the induction kit there and then.

the alloys were short lived though, as i decided that i wanted to keep my vtr alloys and instead refurbish them black and sell the ones from Turbotom
FOR SALE: http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=213472&highlight=Black+MultiSpoke+Alloys

Next up to go with the black badges and the smoked lights, i set about spraying the front grille mesh black

http://i39.tinypic.com/2zox4ih.jpg

much happier with it now

and here is how it stands for now after a good wash.

http://i42.tinypic.com/v3k8lu.jpg

Future plans are:
Supersprint centre section
Lowered
Black VTR wheel refurb
VT kit conversion

Kenco
19th March 2009, 09:14

Sneakydevil89
19th March 2009, 09:42
VT kit will look good, but there is a fair amount of work to fit one. its not hard really, just time consuming if you want it done properly.

Sneakydevil89
25th April 2009, 08:36
have you stuck on that front arch properly? looks a bit loose at the bottom?
is gunna loko sweet when its on though :P i love driving around in a VT kitted car, you instantly get more looks (helps if your car looks like a badger/panda as well lol)

Kenco
25th April 2009, 08:44

im happy so far, however much of a pain in the arse it is!

willsy
25th April 2009, 08:59
Best of luck with the progress today mate, i hope the weather is much better where you are than it is here

Had a look at the arch pic that you sent too.

So the arch bit and the flat bit go in place ok, but the bit in the middle where it changes direction seems a bit out of shape and wont hold itself in place?

Does it push in to position ok still when you hold it in place and then move back outwards when you move away?

2 options really: a new panel thats still in perfect shape (blue one shouldnt be tricky to find) or you could park the side of the car by a wall if theres somewhere handy. Put some of the sealant behind that point, then place a cloth on the panel so the paintwork doesnt get marked and then with a length of wood prop it between the panel and the wall so that it pushes the panel firmly against the car whilst the sealant sets.

After that especially if youre using tiger seal or something similar it should stick solidly in place.

Kenco
25th April 2009, 09:10
Nah it doesn't push into place as it starts to crack, as someone has grinded away the concaved bit of the arch itself
i think i will just get a new rear arch, can't cost that much!

AlexB
25th April 2009, 09:17
saw this beifly in flatarch form just after lowering (you wont have seen me i was in an astra twintop) it looked pretty smart man
with vt kit on shoudl be nice man

http://i41.tinypic.com/2q3vdw1.jpg

now more along the lines of this...
http://i43.tinypic.com/wspon4.jpg
really happy so far with the vt kit, other than the odd panel not being flush with the shell... just hope everything else goes to plan.

Brilliant result, started mine this weekend, should look good, did you use tiger seal to fit it or clips

Kenco
27th April 2009, 18:07
i used a combination of all the useable clips left on the kit, which there were quite a few.. and stuff called 'serious stuff' its like a waterproof adhesive, it seemed okay, just didnt like the fact it was white and theres bits of white popping our of some of the panels, they will be gone when i get round to it, just its raining loads and i dont fancy it in the rain!!! :panic:

PORKYSBITZ

ooh shiney :y:

Lippy
17th May 2009, 21:01
that looks really shiney! looks like you did a really good job on the VT kit bud! How did it go in the end after i spoke to you earlier?

Only 1 thing that I would change about your car and its really small, and that would be the ram air pipe in the front grill, dont know why but just not a fan.

Sneakydevil89
17th May 2009, 21:43
i can tell you that it went all gravy and he is loving listening to his extreme classical beats at max volume now :)

and just noticed, what did simo say you've won?

Kenco
19th May 2009, 10:04
haha simo said i won an e-marsbar ;)
pics up in a sec of new bits and bobs done to the car

Kenco
19th May 2009, 10:29
okay so i decided to change the vtr wheels as they were looking a tad sad and boring,
so the sanding commenced!
http://i43.tinypic.com/2z4ke3r.jpg
then obviously after a long time sanding, they were primered, but you all know what that looks like :panic:
then came the coats of black, missing the lip as they would be done after...
http://i42.tinypic.com/5361x1.jpg
following that, once the black was dry the lip was sprayed which proved to be an absolute ball ache!!
http://i41.tinypic.com/2jd5b9s.jpg
once this was all done, the lacquer was applied and they were left to dry.
once dried i couldnt wait to fit them and here they are!
http://i39.tinypic.com/2iaq5xi.jpg
http://i40.tinypic.com/avirtx.jpg
(once i had finished the wheels i noticed CazLad also had a posiblue sax with black vtrs with a yellow pinstripe :wall: :wall: :wall: ahh well sorry bud!)

once again feel free to leave comments, good or bad :y:

pics will be up soon :)

Sneakydevil89
19th May 2009, 10:57
very nice, got a great finish on them too!
just noticed you need some posi mirror caps now and it will look schweet..er

Kenco
19th May 2009, 11:05
yeah, im tempted by some 106 mirrors like yours though,
ahh who knows im getting my audio sorted then i shall carry on with all the other bits and bobs!

Lippy
19th May 2009, 20:51
alloys look like a good job has been done on them! slightly confused by the yellow lip though? the car is blue and yellow is a hell of a contrast

Kenco
19th May 2009, 22:18
i like the blue black and yellow combo personally!
i think blue and yellow go quite well, therefore the strutbrace, lip and citroen sport badges are yellow :y:

Lippy
19th May 2009, 23:19
cool! didnt realise you had other stuff in yello! so whats next on the stereo side of things? have you got a sub or sub amp yet?

Kenco
20th May 2009, 10:02
haha yea.
i currently have a standard pioneer sub that supplies a little bass
the amp is the biggest pile of balls though..
so next up are JL 12w0-4's and when i find the right one a nice, well built 4 channel amp, most probably JL again.

it's wierd as until i took a trip to my local audio specialist i had no intentions on changing any of my audio lol

Kenco
20th May 2009, 10:06
forgot!
also an alpine headunit will be acquired as i need the 4 rca preouts
at the moment my headunit has an rca splitter, but that means i cant use a high pass filter as the front comps and the sub are pretty much joined together by it

Lippy
20th May 2009, 18:49
I just sold a high voltage line driver for £50 that was £89 new and it was only 2 months old :( that would have solved your problem...
Im well impressed with my alpine unit i just bought! good clarity! ipod control is a bit on the slow side though!

Sneakydevil89

Im sure he wont mind me saying this...but his car has been WRITTEN OFF.

He phoned me and sounds very shaken to be honest. Im not going to go into detail as its not my place to, but just to let everyone know he is ok and it wasnt his fault. Some neck pains, but hopefully nothing serious.

Im sure he will update you all shortly in full, but for now i think we should all wish him well and just be thankful he isnt seriously injured.

I will miss this car. It was awesome. Couldnt have happened to a nicer guy either.

As you can see in the top picture, the person before me decided to spray the grille a creamy/off- white colour, so i decided to just spray the whole lot, i may do the chevrons white though... opinions?

Grill looks a lot better. Still not keen on the 'widemouth' though

Always think they look better as a proper widemouth.

Cheers man, i've actually been thinking of getting a new front bumper, smooth a couple of bits and obviously get it resprayed white.
I have a few things planned before that though :y:
