Car failed mot exhaust too loud????

They can if its alot louder than standard. Its up to them if they want to thou, they dont have to fail it.

I personaly think its stupid that they can fail it just coz of that

The exhaust too loud thing has been around for ages, just seems a few more garages are imforming it now.
Alot depends on the tester and just how loud/big your exhaust is, some may think a " 4" jap can" is excessive for a saxo and put on for no reason other than to create excessive noise thus worthy of a fail in their eyes.
But the rule of thumb is before it even goes in for a test you say "oi mate, will this pass the MOT with this noise?" if he say yes, let him test it, if no, say ta and move along

Well i thought "excuse me dear sir, could you tell me if this exhaust is of an excessive noise level which may cause offence to others thus fail my MOT test" Woulda looked outta character for someone with a paint tin as an exhaust sorry ;)

is it stright through ? because they will fail it for that aswell not having a cat on it, mine got failed because no cat and it was 2 loud they only turned on the car and told me its failed lol

thing is its the dealer thats getting it done for me was part of the deal for them to put a new mot on it think hes guna put a standard one on it for the mot then put the jap back on but i think its a cat back system its not even that loud though :S
