Driving home today and my car was ‘Juddering’ so I pulled up, and noticed my car was leaking something on the floor... got mum to come to come rescue me lol, went to start the sax and it wouldn’t :( With more attempts it finally did and then loads of smoke started coming out of the exhaust and engine.
Finally brought the car home and have got my dad to take a look at it and even though he’s a mechanic he doesn’t know what’s wrong with it, all he knows is that is misfiring and something like the exhaust is leaking...
Looks like I can’t use my car for a while :wall: ... Anyone had any similar problems lol? Suggestions?

Water in engine?
Lack of Oxygen?

I would go for a cracked cylinder head hence water in the engine.

Crappy 1.0, 1.1 and 1.4 alloy blocks eat them up!
I say get a vtr engine, they are far more solid :P

It's the engine that's crappy! The alloy block engines are really bad for head gaskets, the liners sink and stuff. I know people who have ended up doing several gaskets before either fitting metal gaskets or going for iron blocks.
You can probably pick up a vtr engine for pretty cheap, and providing it's the right age it'd slot straight in and plug straight in!

Sparco_Tom
24th March 2009, 08:32
rather than try selling a nackered engine saxo and making yourself 300quid, why not spend 100 on a vtr engine of the same age and get it slotted in :)

24th March 2009, 11:25
VTR engine only £100? And im sitting here settling with a 1.4 under the bonnet?
Sparco_Tom
24th March 2009, 11:54
yer there are loads around 100 normally gets you a good engine with ecu loom etc
i sold a 97 vtr with 80k miles loom ecu for £70
everyone wants vts engines so the vtr upgrade cost nothing compared to a vts upgrade

24th March 2009, 12:32
Well thats not too hard on the old wallet for a bigger engine, worth it for the extra bhp lol will have a look in to it soon cheers.
Kirsty whats the latest news?!x
Sparco_Tom
24th March 2009, 12:33
certainly the most cost effective way for bhp

Id say headgasket failure...
Check for Mayo sludge under the oil cap.
When i had headgasket failure i had white smoke and didnt think nothing of it. Carried on driving for a few days and car started spluttering and car was overheating. Stopped driving until weekend, replaced headgasket and now (touchwood) its all good.

lool..
i need to order some stuff.. going to get a new head gasket and spark plugs and some other stuff lol hopefully that will fix it :y:
Olly
25th March 2009, 16:16
will need new bolts too as your not supposed to re-use the same ones, and cambelt, but most people dont, depends how old it is. Did the car overheat? you may need the head skimming which means a bigger head gasket. new oil, coolant things to remember in price too as it all adds up.
xxpinkyxx1991
25th March 2009, 16:24
yeah dad wants me to get a cambelt aswell lol.. im sure he has some crap in the garage, bolts and that
Olly
25th March 2009, 16:48
yeah? if your on a real budgut you can use a kellogs box, cut it to the shape of the head, punch out all the holes and no need to buy a head gasket then... :-D
Oh and elastic bands for the belt,... there universal and cheap.
xxpinkyxx1991
25th March 2009, 16:52
lmao.. ill consider that tip, thanks :)

I had similar problem the other week, the car started chugging and smelling of petrol, and the engine managment light started flashing, it felt like i was driving a tractor. I thought it was the head but turned out to be the coilpack, now all is good again
