basically my headunit doesn't have any pre-outs on it (i got it ages ago and never really wanted a sub back then) however i have aquired myself an amp and sub now but don't have the money to be splashing out on a new head unit, so is there any way of me wiring it in without having to buy a new head unit? my brothers amp does have a high level input but this one doesn't so i'm assuming not?

the amps a JBL GTO301.1 or something

The worst thing you can do is rush into this sort of Thing, Trust me lol

Save up, do your research and when you get the money together and have a awesome sound system you'll be thankfull

But to answer you question, some headunit DO have a wire which you can connect a SUB directly to. This wont sound nearly as good as running the sub through the amp, but its a start. But like I said, hold fire
This forum is a great place to ask questions and get facts right :-)

I tried this once to see if my new subs i had bought actually worked. I wouldnt bother mate. the bass would be unbeliveably quiet and you wouldnt be able to tell the difference

I've found some adaptors (line level convertor or something) that does the job, so i'll just rip the rear speakers out :)

yep rear speakers will work..
wont sound anything like it would coming straight from a pre-out on a headunit though

obviously, but i've run all the other wires around anyway so that when i do get a HU with pre-outs i can just plug it straight in :)

fair compromise methinks!
