overheat and the fan

only drove 2 miles to drop the gf off to work noticed my coolant temp leve thing was up 3/4s and went red for a few secounds then back to half? could any one help? i looked in the coolant level check under the bonnet and it had enough in there and also when i stop the engine and turn it off to go in the house the fan will come on for about 4 mins is this normal? dont want it to blow up lol thank you

yeah sounds about right (make sure you bleed it after fitting the stat)

i noticed the fan is on when im driving too how much water+coolant should be in the coolant bottle thing because i had a look in there and i couldnt see anything so i have mixed some coolant and water and filled it 3/4s up is this ok?
