View Full Version : -40mm OR -50mm........CAN’T DECIDE!

adamsax

Can you guys post up some examples of your own car, or other saxo's that are lowered either of the above amounts.

I know handling is fully optimised at -40mm, but then there's the 'look' factor of -50mm, although handling isn't destroyed with that AND -40mm doesn't look bad either.........ARRRRRRRGH!

Pics and opinions guys!

Cheers smileys/smiley16.gif

what size rims? 15"?

Im currently lowered 40mm, but I'd probably go down 50mm if on 15" alloys.

Mmmmmmm, I don't really like it when it looks lower at the back. I like it to be an even drop all round or slightly higher at the back (then it keeps the handling and balance as even as possible)

Think I'm swaying toward -50mm now, especially after what you guys have said......

Pics would be nice though smileys/smiley16.gif

Can anyone verify this for me?

You don't want to go lower at the back than at the front. Saxo's are higher at the back than the front standard and there's a reason why.

I've got mine 60mm at the front and around 45ish at the back and the handling is spot on. I've only grounded it a few times and that's only because my decat pipe hangs too low smileys/smiley26.gif

They were taken when it was first done so its actually dropped a bit more since then

I never had any problems with grounding until I put the decat pipe on. It doesn't fit very well and I'm replacing it as soon as I have the funds. It grips to the road even with my cheap, almost illegal tyres. Damn being a student with no money smileys/smiley13.gif

im down 40mm all round on spax springs with 16" alloys and 40 profile tyres. handling seems the same but i put a lower strut brace on and now it sticks like glue to the road. need to take some new pics but here is 1 just after it was lowered.

Hi all, was reading through all the comments as i also want to lower my VTS when i get it soon.
I want to lower it 50mm, but the problem is i cant find a fully suspension kit that lowers it by that much.
The Bilstien Sprintline lowers 40/45mm (im considering this one)
I had GMAX on my VTR and wasnt impressed at all.

So basically, anyone know of a full kit that lowers by 50mm, if not then its gotta be bilstein all the way...

SlowOB
14th November 2005, 18:03

mattvts23
15th November 2005, 04:13
Shouldnt have a problem with PAS pipe on MK1 saxos, only occurs on mk2's. You could get a Bilstien set up and use 50mm gmc springs. Mine was lowered 50mm then I raised it to 40mm, because I thought the ride was harsh. Now that could be because the Bilstien struts are a lot tuffer.

I would stick with 40mm myself.

rushy_23
15th November 2005, 17:32
I had the GMAX full suspension kit (shocks and springs).
Lowered the VTR by 35mm. Maybe it was a bad batch...

Thats an idea, Bilstien shocks with different springs.
Is it bad to mix them up like that guys? And are there any certain springs you recommend with the bilstien streetline shocks?
Id probably go for 45mm/50mm lowering springs as long as they are decent.

Im running a custom set up air bag suspension system with braided hose's, upgraded solenoid valve's, uprated compressor and larger air tanks.

It can dump the car at least 180mm front 200mm back plus raise it all the way back up past standard height.
