If you have never used a clay bar then the meguiars kit that comes with the quick detailer is a good start.
Take your time on each panel.
Use plenty of quick detailer and keep the clay well lubricated along with the panel you working on.
Even if your car is clean the clay-bar will still be effective and remove further dirt and tar spots.
Your paintwork will feel as smooth as glass after it!!!

I use Bilt Hamber, mainly because you can use water as a lube and not need to buy spray. I find it really good, I broke the bar into 5 and use a 5th each time. Have a look at my Saxo thread, near the beginning you can see when I first ever clayed, polished, waxed etc and see the results. :y:

can use water as lube with megs, in the same way you can dust your house with a damp cloth...... (don't even start on me students!)

From what a detailer told me once (people can argue with me, it is a forum afterall!) you only need to clay bar your car 2-3 times a year so with the polish/wax question it imo doesnt really matter, but would go nicely hand in hand with a good polish.

They whole clay bar thing is a weird one, i mean it does cause an improvement in your bodywork, but that noticable to the average person, no not really, way i see it, if you're washing your car and have fuck all else to do, clay bar it, otherwise just go back inside to your stash of porn

is the whole point of claying the car not to make the surface as clean and contaniment free as possible so that when you polish and wax you get the best finnish possible and protect the paintwork for the future?

I've clay barred the 1.1, once, and I was really impressed with the results, the paintwork improved sooo much. Haven't done it again because I ran out of the detailer spray shit. lolz. If it's true you can use water as a lube think I'll be doing the vts this weekend, that's in need of a shine :D

After claying, you should wax the car and then polish it afterwards. The 3 steps will give your bodywork a great finish!

Wax then polish? surely the polish being an abrasive would remove any traces of the wax?

Boooom correct!

Clay removes agents such as traffic film that can't be seen by eye ...

The best of telling if your car needs to be clay barred is ~
Number your finger over a clean surface on the paintwork ... if you can hear a noise whilst rubbing it needs claying. The noise is your finger rubbing up against any road muck etc on the paint itself.

You can't over-clay a car ... But you wouldn't need to do it more than 4/5 times in a single year.

Certainly one of the best/the best way of renewing the look of a car's paintwork.

Incorrect ... Clay ~ Polish ~ Wax

Polish acts as an abrasive cutting medium whilst wax acts like a sealant.

So can you use water as a lube for the clay bar? I tried a water/shampoo mix before but the clay bar didn't like it. lolz

Claybarring is good stuff ive used megs, sonus and bilt hamber up to now and all work really well, sonus grey imo has beem the bst but i liek the idea of bilt hamber just using water as a lube

As said gets rid of any contaminents etc on the paintwork that are not washed away when you wash the car, does a great job and the difference you will see immediatially, wash the car again after claybarring though :y:

Paint work is now clean so when you come to polish then no contaminents will make more swirl marks in the paint work, obviously a machine will get rid better (im not lending you mine though :p )

Polish - Sealent - Wax, youll know when the car needs re waxing as water will not sheet off as much, i recommend you re wax your car every month, and clay it every 6 months (will have to go thourhg the polish if it needs it then sealent and then a wax)

Also best to wash the car after its been polished to get rid of the resedue before sealent and waxing

Claying a car can take up to half an hour, use one bot for the top half of car, one for the bottom and then another for other bits liek the wheels and exhaust, if dropped throw it away simple as that :y:
