Last year there was big ones around my area too. Go out for a drive in it. Pitch black streets & no traffic lights ftw. Its eerie like a zombie movie :P

used to get a lot of power cuts at my old area... once we had like 9 consecutive days of a power cut at the same time of teatime for like 3 hours.....

and yeah as mystic says it is like a eerie feeling when outside in them in the dark :)

I always remember we had a power coat on christmas day as my mother was cooking the dinner (electric oven) Luckily that was the first ever time my mother had cooked the turkey on christmas eve!

Granted, we were freezing! But we had turkey! lolz :P

Most house alarms do have a battery back up which will set off the alarm if your supply is lost. Just like car alarms :y:

Same as mains powered smoke alarms, They will beep if power is lost.

Used to get them all the time at my mums place (tiny little road in the middle of nowehere) worst one was when we was building the house , had half a roof so was drafty and cold anyways but then not having power for 5 days was a night mare!!!

Ended up going stay in hotel for a week lol!
