I have had the brakes on for about a year now and they have just started to have a really high pitched squeak, what's the best way to stop it as it doesn't seem to be stopping at all!
Thanks :)

take the pads out and rub the pad down with coarse sand paper... you will find when you take the pad out the part which makes contact with the disc will be shiny, so just take sand paper to it until the shinyness disappears :y:

dont forget copper grease, some say vibrations cause squeaky brakes.

after fitting new pads make sure you dont brake hard for the first 200 miles (roughly) or they pad ends up going shiny and the brake efficiency drops.. and ya have to sand them down to get rid of the shinyness

yeah i did break them in gently. but it still squeaks on the odd occasion.
so your saying if i whip the pads out and give em a once over with some 80grit paper that should sort it?

new pads mate, heavy breaking causes this as if you glaze over the pads.
best to replace if you only got standard discs then not too expensive.

if there pretty new pads, its worth just giving them a once over like you said instead of spendin more money replacing them but its totally upto you mate

Thanks guys, they are just standard brakes as last years MOT required them but I did want to replace them with some decent brakes (any suggestions before I scour the forum)
I may have a go if they aren't too warn out by using the methods above :y:

As said for the price of brakes replace them
When you take disc off give the hub a good wire brush to prevent anty crpa between the disc and that will stop them warping if there is anything thre ;) do the same with the calipers too
copper grease on the backs of the pads to stop squeel whne the piston is shaking off the pads back
Brakes are a very easy thing to change tbh, should only take about an hour, just remember to pump the pedal before taking it for a test drive
front pistons gan be forced back with a g clamp and the rears wind back in ;)

Thanks mate, if I did decide to change them it would be my first ever job on a car so is it still worth a go? What are the chances of knackering something up along the way?
I assume there is a guide in the sticky anyway so can follow that at least!
Saves paying for labour if it's an easy job :)

Fairly Easy Job mate.
Like Pred, said it would take less than an hour.
