when i was in america last year me and gf had a lil look in this pet supper store we came across out and about. as the gf was adoring the cuddley puppies and bunnys etc i was looking in the marine life section at these ugly yet beautifull intresting little fish called siemesse fighter fish! staff that worked there tld me about how they cant be with other fish because they will attack them :boxing: lol so can only live a lone :( there for they were sold in a tiny little tank no bigger than a butter tubs. i went home thinking about the shit life these things must live alone and in small tanks. so ever since i've wanted to get one and keep it in a bigger tank giving it a happier life pluss they realy fasinate me how they come from a country which is dominated by a fighting/marshal arts culture and there fish are the same lol . so im thinking of getting a biorb 30l tank and a fighter fish so he will have plenty of room to swim in, not one of these tiny tanks most people will put them in.

any one else have a biorb tank? if you do post your pic's plz loved to see ho you have decorated your's.

and if you have a pet fighter fsh post pics to :)

thanx guy's :y:

i dont have a biorb but iv had 2 fighter fish.

first one lasted ages and got quite big, was a bluey purpley colour. but then time went by and it passed through.

second one dint seem to last long at all, if you've never kept fish before i wouldnt advise one for the beginner. as they require special water conditions.

id reccomend some gaurami's tho, beutifull fish and easy to keep! :y:

The rents have a BiOrb, its doing ok now but for months the fish kept dying over and over. They were following the very complex advice of the shop owner to the letter too. Its a lot of effort lol

Amazes me how they die so easy and yet theres carp the size of a 5 year old in a shitty badly managed lake near me

all of the above are freshwater fish originally from rivers and lakes.

or you can get salt water fish, obiously from the sea which are much more complicated to keep such as...

louis_23 its an intimidation sort of thing. im harder then you blah blah

they do it to threaten each other basically. when i put my finger on the glass when i had my first one it would circle up to the glass and put its hood out.

quite nice fish but as said before they are prone to fin rot etc and take alot of time to maintain due to certain water conditions

Biorb bowls are generally not a good home for a fish, they are apprently fond of corners. Also the biorbs undergravel filtration system, isnt great although for a single fighter im sure it would be fine.

I got a BiOrb Life tank a few months back which has the same filter system as the orbs & i've had to stick a fluval filter in the tank too to help out. The lighting system on the tanks is awesome though, give the fish a proper day/moonlight cycle.

There are a few folk on here who can give you some good advice though, my tank it currently home to 8 Guppys/Fancy Guppys. The cat loves the Fancy Guppy tails though ;)

*That was a temp spot for the tank untill i had a proper unit made ;)*

Got it off ebay, but the woman who breeds them has her own website too, here is the stockshop:

http://www.thebettalady.co.uk/stockshop.htm#159742034

It was such a hard choice there was so many! I only found her website after I bought the fish on ebay!

We originally wanted a halfmoon and the one we ordered was green and blue metallic, but it arrived dead :( so we got this one instead which I actually prefer.

Was £23 including postage.

By the way its a load of bull about keeping them alone, you just cant have more than one fighting fish. i work in an aquatic shop for the last 6 years on the weekends and we get them delivered and put them straight into full tanks of fish and their fine

Mystic

Every fish is different though mate, as a rule of thumb they should be kept alone, its better for their own health & a stress reducer all round.

They are aggressive with any fish which looks remotely like another fighter, fancy guppies are often confused for them. You also gotta be careful for a nipper going at their fins.

Mystic is right ... however they can be kept in a community tank aslong as there is only the one.

More of a display fish, keep them in their own little tank and leave the real fish tanks for proper fish ;)

yeah i agree every fish is different but what i often find is that the fighting fish is the one that gets bullied as theyve got the large attratctive fins, i must say iv never seen a fighting fish attack another normal community fish, perhaps iv just been lucky?

I had a firebelly newt in my Guppy tank for a few weeks which is supposed to be a nono. I ended up having to rehome the newt just because he struggled swimming on the surface because of the airstone, that and i had to lower the temp slightly to keep him & the gups happy. The guppys pestered the newt when ever he was in the water too, felt bad for him

Community fish are too curious i find & its probably them who do harrass the fighters too much, although i doubt the fighters appreciate being around so many fish anyway.
