Does anyone know how you would go about it?

Basicaly my mums side of the family used to massive but now there is only girls remaining and none of them want to keep their surname once married. There is loads of boys on my dads side so i thought i would change it for my mums family sake.

Dont have a clue where to start?

go to a solicitor and tell them what you want to do and they can sort it out for you

i changed mine when i was 18, as I was taking my step dads surname I had to put a notice in the local paper to see if anyone objected (ie my biological (sp) father)

but i think it will be easier for you mate

Walk into your local registry office (they do more than marriages) and ask them abut it

Do you have to have a reason to change your name or can you ask for anything for any reason?

I.E. Can I have Simon Robinson just for the fun of it?

I changed mine when I was 18.

It was a case of sitting down with the local Justice of the Peace and I had to write a sentence stating that I now wanted to be known as Kerry Phimister.

Then she signed it. Then after 2 years of using that name thats it done. :y:

You can actually change your first name legally w/o deedpole it's only your surname iirc and yes, can change it to anything

I should change my first name to Senso, so then my full name would be Senso Dyne (like the toothpaste).

you can do this online but make sure you get a good on line user that will send you your deedpoll cirtificate with the red seal on it. It should only cost you about £35 as I did mine a couple of years ago. If you need anymore help with this just pm me and I will dig out my paperwork and give you some better advice.

search deed poll in google, fill out the online form, pay the money (about £39 or something when i did it 3 years ago) and they send you an official change of name document which you can use to get your driving license/bank accounts/insurance etc changed. simples

Lol that is a good solution.

I just think it would be nice for my mums maiden name to carry on. I have 6 boy cousins on my dads side so his name should last a while but my mums is going to disapear.

Dont know if it sounds right though, Tom Garrett? I suppose i could call my self Thomas and be a pompus knob...
