opinions please (Graded!! 20/02/06)

as part of my final year od my design degree i have to enter a competition the competition i chose was to design a time-piece anything at all related to time really i chose the hard task of re-designing the watch this is what i have come up with:

they have 2 oled displays one scrolls the time the other srolls the date you twist it to see the opposite i have done away with buckles and clips and it has two small expanding patches on either side to help get it over your hand onto your wrist, would people wear one of these? and comments welcomed

thats the aim for the winner the inner is round ant the outer is slightly eliptical so the centre looks slightly larger instead of numbers like all digital watches it would use text so would scroll across twelve twenty seven for example other side would be january twenty second...

they look really good mate, and think they're a fantastic idea. i prefer the aluminium one as its more subtle.

one question - what colour does the time/date scroll across in ?

black myself! this mite sound like a stupid question but how is it powered? and in the dark does the display glow or sumthing cos there aint room for a backlight button? smileys/smiley2.gif

sorry left some details out the screens are oled means organic light emmiting displays like lcd screens so produce their own back light hence saving on power consumption and visable in the light and dark like a very small tv screen, will run of one battry thin and curved rechargable also something i didnt mention there will be a bedside dock to place it on it will charge and act like a bedside clock with the time scrolling round to. the time colour is a majour factor i havent worked out yet but if the bacground was a kinda greyish i was thinking white light writing would look nice ??? any opinions?

this has basic functions only i got annoyed looking at products on the market that can do everything but make tea (except the tea makers that have clocks on them!) so im keeping it simple time and date only no buttons time sets my radio frequency settings!

its for a competition had to design a timepiece no limits! i thought the use of text to tell the time was a nice idea as thanks to mobiles text has become the main way of communicating stuff. scrolling text is also vage metaphore for time flying bye. it also incorporates OLED technology which is environmentally friendly and uses little power! can provide its own light so no need for buttons to make it back lit. Radio controlled time setting so correct time all the time. when you go to bed you place it on the stand and its a bedside clock

its just conceptual im afraid cost to produce would be for the likes of the company the competition is for doubt my design will win there is very stiff competition out there!

the project has to be viewed by my tutors then external verifiers then i have to send it all off first viewing is friday!! have to hand in my other project to on laminate design! then a week later my 8000 word dissertation!! its all go here

well just got my grade......58% what a crock of s*$t thats not even 2-1 standard the tutors havent got a clue! they were saying how much they liked both all along then give me a crap mark, ill be having words tomorrow!! gonna tear them a new arsehole. but what do you guys reckon does it seem that bad?

right i re looked at the marking sheet one minor is 58% one is 62% so average should be 60% not 58% so i need to get them to change that tomorrow that will make it 2-1 grade and ill be happy with that! fingers crossed

can't believe your mark was that low mate!! sounds like you're annoyed about it - which you're allowed to be.
