I love all motorsport.

Theres alot of skill in getting a car with 800hp at the rear wheels to go round a corner.

Neither is better than the other.

people whinge that theres no overtaking in F1 thus making it dull, they then say they like Rallying, where there isnt overtaking *sniggers*

Rally, F1, BTCC, MotoGP... etc skill involved in them all. F1 piss's me off sometimes but it is my preferred choice.

i love the F1. i like rally but its just a different level of competition imo. the F1 is mental, and i like the whole "ill see you in court mother fucker!" crack tbh :P

there is a lot of skill in f1, a hell of a lot.. it goes to show when hammond struggled so much trying to put in a lap...

I love them both tbh and could watch both all day long, i must say that watching on tv i get a lot more exciteable watching f1.. but i probably prefer rallying..

We are talking about racing, not dogging mate

Mr_X
6th April 2009, 19:29
i like both, i would say f1 would require more skill tbh

Ryan
6th April 2009, 19:31
Both require high levels of skill but they are totally different forms of skill.

One is controlling a car on loose surfaces.

The other is controlling a car at high speed with external factors beyond your control, in rallying a tree doesnt just uproot on entry to a corner and suddenly get in the way.

I have exactly same opinion as Ryan...no motorsport is better than the other imo. All have the advantages and disadvantages.

Rallycross is supposed to be a mix of the 2 sports in question

for the fans lol

what i think would make the best motorsport is a bastardised mix of the 2

jack up the suspension on an f1 car
give the track a light coating of gravel and dust
and stick some trees at the side lol

only problem i can see is the fact the drivers wont be able to see for dust

adam19

prefer rally over f1 easy

From this weekend just gone. Dont see crashes like that in F1 do ya? And to think that WRC drivers are so close to such damage on every stage.

AlexB
6th April 2009, 23:40
the only reason you dont see the crashes in f1 is theres nothing to hit anymore after the likes of senna dying ect

rallying they cant exactly clearcut the welsh forrests and put in gravel traps

titchster
6th April 2009, 23:44
Exactly, Rallying is much more 'on the edge' so to speak, much more exhillarating. As you said, there's nothing to hit anymore in F1.

Can't remember who it was who said it but someone was on about plant a load of trees at the side of the track, get rid of the safety barriers for crowds, add in some big drops, and gravel, and F1 would be a much more exciting prospect.

Can't remember who the hell said it though, which is annoying, they were on about Ron Jeremy in a tree house above the pit straight commentating on it and someone crashing into the tree or something too.

EDIT: Clarkson possibly?

AlexB
6th April 2009, 23:52
ive heard someone say that man
hence i sorta said it above lol
thing is the speeds f1 is at and the type of car if it does hit smoething your dead
a rally car is built with hitting a tree in mind
look at portugal this year
focus rolled 15 times down a hill and both guys walked away
f1 still has some close action and tbh dancing cars round each other at 200 mph is a bit dicy imo

btw i never actually said bu ti side wit rallying just as you can do it on a lower level ect where as f1 you need to go through the right chalnnels as such

Thats the vid i've linked.:y:

Funnily enough just watching the Lewis Hamilton interview on TG, and he was saying he came off the track backwards at 180mph into the gravel, waiting for the impact expecting it to hurt and his words were: 'It was actually quite a nice shunt'. The gravel kills off all the speed before they get to the wall. So they dont hit owt. *cough*

But saying that about dying if they hit anything, dont forget that WRC drivers are doing 120/130mph+ past trees and mahusive drops (que Latvala's crash at Portugal) on 18/19 stages, 3 days in a row.

AlexB
7th April 2009, 00:06
remember the other year when there was a coming togeether of wheels in the forst turn and iirc shumacher got lauched airborne into the gravel abnd it ruined severl cars
i know its not very oftern but when they do actually crash its pretty big

rally yea its a bit more hardcore
but it does seem people only love it for the crashes
and not the sheer effort involeved (i have driven a rally car on gravel at speed and trust me its not easy)
after just a few minutes i was nackerd

f1 the guys are more light fighter pilots taking big g forces and they have to be pinpoint accurate with it
its a its more scientific

Can agree that F1 has more spectacular crashes on the rare occasion, but they're that rare, they're hardly worth contemplating, its just the fact that its the cars that all look very similar, going round the same track, taking the same line, maybe with a bit of overtaking, but essentially all the same over all 589 laps, or however many it is. Or maybe it's been that long since I took an interest in it, i've lost sight of what it's really like?

Fully understand the effort in rallying, especially when it shows the foot cam, and you just see the heel/toeing, left foot braking, constant movement, and when it shows the wheel is never straight, even on a straight, and the fact that the driver is always 2/3 turns ahead of the car anticipating.

AlexB
7th April 2009, 00:21
yea ok f1 it is all a bit the same but the cars have some differeces you cant see
i think its a lot more interesting now its down to driver skill a bit more and it has shown hamilton up a bit as i thought he was a jumped up little shite personally but lets not go into that lol
its still a good sport and when you actually watch it you can see little things likr the drivers adjusting the car to suit the part of the trak there on ect and that is what gets me
there doing 200 mph coming in to a corner and think hmm i think i need a bit more front downforce and stiffer read dampers here so ill adjust tnem and 2 corners later they change it agin ect ect
that takes skill to know what to change when and how much ect

yea you cant really go straight in a rally car they just dont do it
id hate to be trying to drive a full wrc spec car (i drove a group n polo on gravel) and that was hard enough at 35-40mph lol
i did have a pop in richard burn mark6 evo and that thing was mentalist on tarmac it was running restricted and still span all 4 wheels quite happily if you got a tad liberal on the throttle so god knows how bad it would be on grave at full boost

7th April 2009, 00:23
i go rallyin nearly every week so i would say rallying anyday

you clearly never watched F1 in much detail. How are they different to each other any less than a focus WRC to a c4 wrc?

look at the complexity of an F1 car, the different touches on cars, wing deisngs, sidepod designs, etc etc... Look at the Brawn F1 car and then compair it to the Renault F1 car, you can clearly see alot of difference between the two, same as when you then look at the RBR.

As for the same lines, its the fastest way, rallying peoples lines are also very similar as there is an optimum line to maintain speed through a corner, and on alot of gravel stages you dont want to be going on different lines and loosing speed on loose gravel either.

Like i said i love motorsport, I feel people are just quite short sighted at times.
