My insurance is up at the end of the week so i've been ringing around getting a few quotes, i'm 22, have 5years ncb, got my advanced driving certificate, live in a low risk area and the car is on private land in a locked garage, the car is a 93 honda civic import 1.6 twin cam vtec. All i can say is some of the quotes took the piss with most companies not wanting to touch me due to my car being an imported or if they did quote me it was silly high.

My current insurance premium for next year for both my cars civic and astra both fully comp:
NFU - £840 inclusive for both vehicles £50excess on the civic and £10excess on the astra.

All the quotes below are based on fully comp and only for my civic.
Some of the quotes:
Direct Line - £1200 with £750 excess and that's only if i took the car back to totally standard state
Adrian Flux - £950 with £350 excess
Swinton Specialists - wouldn't quote due to my age and nature of the vehicle
Churchill - £1040 with £600excess

There were more but these were the ones that stuck in my mind, the ones not remembered were all more expensive.

Some of these companies are apparently import specialists, yeah right.

you could insure a UK CTR for that (or less). are there any companies that kind of specialise in modded and imported cars?

insurance companys are just wankers sometimes
i know a guy who called up about a land rover defender and asked if he could put glass in the back where it was coverd up like this
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/de/Land_Rover_Defender_90_hardttop.jpg

and they said that it counts as a modification and wouldn't insure him

wtf?

Insurers usually go on the:

"If it has been changed since it came out of the factory its a modification"

Even for something like that!

Those prices are small compared to what Churchill want as a renewal price for me! I paid £730 last year with Churchill after Admiral wanted nearly £2500 as a renewal after paying £732 with them for the year previous! Churchill now want, as a renewal, £1400 with 5yrs Protected NCB and £750 excess!!! for no apparent reason!

So am now going with directline for £333.32 per annum with £50 excess and 5yrs Protected NCB:y:

I don't know what group the Uk type-r is but i do know my little 1.6 import is a group 18. Also a ctr has airbags, traction control, abs and other safety stuff whereas mine has none of it so yes i dare say it would probably be cheaper,i know i can insure a uk evo 4,5,6 for about the same and sometimes cheaper.

Yes there are such as Adrian Flux but even most of these companies won't quote me because i'm under 25 and drive an imported vehicle.

Made me chuckle when one company came back to me and said that my civic was classed as a 'High performance japanese import' to which i laughed and said 'no mate you must be mistaken it's a 1.6litre Civic'

Very high prices there. I'm 21 with 1 yrs NCB and I pay just over 1100 on a Type R... They do try to bum you for having an import though.

(Btw all early Evo's up to 5 were imports.)
