Im trying to change my mates rear brakes on his vts, but the piston will not budge. Ive changed the rears on both my vtr's and had no problems. But, his brake pads were so low that it was wearing away the metal. Is there any chance the piston would have seized? BTW i dont have the right rewind tool, im using a screw driver and mallet which is what ive used the previous times. Any thing i can try?

Have you took the cap off the brake fluid reservoir and are you twisting the piston back rather than pushing it ?!

1) Get the right tool.
2) Try twisting it back with the bleed nipple undone (it may have a collapsed brake pipe)
3) Pump the pedal until the piston falls out, clean it up and clean up the inside of the caliper, without wrecking the seal and push the piston back in and try again....

If none of that works, just buy a recon one.

Ive done it now. It was just tight as fuck. Why would i want the piston to come out? How would it go back in?

You push it in past the seal, then wind it back in like you would normally. You would want it to come out because, like explained... it is possible to remove the rusty lip that could be causing it to be hard to push the piston back in. This would normally be done with a new seal, but as the brake bias causes there to be minimal pressure on the rears it should be fine. Alot cheaper to buy a rebuild kit than a re-con caliper...
