vtr mk1 engine light

hi all.
my engine management light is constantsly on and off, it goes off if i go harsh round a corner, or i let the revs go down as tho its going to stall and judder, but other than that i cant get it off,

also i dont know if this is related but sometimes when the light is on its gets reallllllyyy hard to change gears, but then sometimes its really easy,

any help would be much apprechiated
