I just went out for a drive and my handbreak light started flickering and then going on for a few seconds... I checked that the handbreak wasnt up at all and then carried on. When I could I applied the handbreak when i stopped and then released it again but when I was driving it was still coming on. Main symptoms seem to be when I turn the wheel, espically left.
Does anoyone know what this is? Will it be unsafe for me to carry on driving my car without getting it checked out?
Cheers all

Could be low on break fluid or something like that, look in the hand book it will tell you there. smileys/smiley2.gif

sounds like an over sensitive handbrake switch to me, unless as reevsey says there is anything else attached ot it

this sign is on there (!) as a warning meaning either your brake fluid is low needs topping up or brake pads need changing

o rite ok then. cheers, i wil check the break fluid. I was thinking it could be a loose connection- i notice that it seems to be flickering... could this still mean that it is low on fluid.
Also where do I get the fluid from and is it unsafe to keep driving? There is nothing wired to the handbreak as far as I know.

if you keep the car still and lightly move the handbrake while it is not on and check if the light flickers, if so its the connection if you ask me. i dont think it will be fluid, but hey i could be wrong, like scott said i think loose connect under the handbrake gaiter. any motorfactor or halford and garage will sell brake fluid just check the hand book for the correct stuff before toppig it up. smileys/smiley4.gif

yer i got some fluid- the bloke advised me in Halfords, although is it likely that I will ever need to replace my break fluid- I have never known anyone to have to top it up.... Do I need to be concerned about a leak?

here who needs brakes anyway!! thats what bumpers are for lolol smileys/smiley4.gif
brake fluid only gives your pressure in the cylinders to push the pads against the disks, if its a problem you'l know about it as your brakes wont be responsive and more spongey, also make sure ther isnt air in the system!

my brother had the exact same problem toped up and changed pads its now fine. have you checked the pads?

na, i havent checked them although I think they are fine. I havent been doing much harsh breaking that would wear them out that much. After I topped it up I went out earlier and it was still flashing so then I filled the thing right up- is this bad for it?
I couldnt tell if it was just me or if the breaks had suddenly become a lot more sensitive- breaking was a lot firmer! I think that is- I'm not sure if I am just imagining it because of what I have been doing.
Anyway the light didnt seem to be flickering when I took it out for a 5 or so mile journey. Is it worth getting checked to be on the safe side do you think?
Cheers all!
