what the f**k did you expect??
dsh85
25th November 2005, 22:52
well its a long shot but if u cant fnd anywere decent you could possibly trade or swap for a furio without a bodykit and keep your wheels to help the cause?

Most 17 year olds have brains & start off with a clio 1.2, saxo 1.1, etc, sorry to say but you must be mad if you want to get insured on a 1.6 8 valve vtr at only 17, you must have more money then brains.

Ive got a 1.1 saxo & iam 19, iam putting a full vt* bodykit on it, got my pass plus & hoping my insurance comes to about £800, if i was you mate, i would get rid of the vtr & maybe go for a furio or westcoast & then get a vtr once youve got some no claims to your name, but then again you could get your mum or dad as the main driver, should be alot cheaper that way & thats what most new young drives do these days.

25th November 2005, 23:32
tried get my rents to put me on insurance so i could get better car but they had none of it!!! jus get a lil car!!! too much power is a killer!!!

25th November 2005, 23:35
i would also suggest selling the vrt for a 1.1
bear_westy
25th November 2005, 23:42
it wouldnt be too bad if it wasnt modified thats where his problem is not the fact that its a vtr...for me a vtr was like £1700 to insure and westcoast £1000

26th November 2005, 00:19
Did you not think to get quotes for insurance before you put the kit on? smileys/smiley5.gif
Yates
26th November 2005, 00:58
what if you just take the kit off and put it standard, standard will look much better anyway!
have to say your crazy if you are willing to pay 4/5 on a car which you say is worth half of that
plus its a well known fact that almost every one has a bump scrape or bad crash after they have just passed, do you really want to crash it when forking out loads of insurance which will put in higher, sell it and get a furio at least
SteVTR
26th November 2005, 01:06
smileys/smiley3.gif you'd pay 4-5 grand on insurence for a saxo i wouldnt even pay that on a scooby or a evo
feel sorry for younger drivers now it wasnt that bad a few years ago when i passed only cost me just over a grand on a vtr at 17 smileys/smiley4.gif
not many places will touch people under 19 now n even most of them wont touch modded cars or will only cover certain mods i'd put it back to standard mate
Sean
26th November 2005, 01:08
i must say mate, you're a bit simple if you didn't get quotes before you bought/modified the car, and as for being prepared to pay 4grand for insurance... what do you plan to do in a years time when 1 years NCB only brings it down from 4grand to around £3500... smileys/smiley5.gif
add one of your parents to your policy. i added my girlfriend's mum and now pay £258 fully comp on a vtr smileys/smiley14.gif

thats on your mams insurence though mate which means your just a named driver so you wont build up any no claims bonus loads of lads i know do that and are driving around in CTR's etc thing is in a few years time when they go on thier own policy they wont be able to insure much more than a vtr anyway

26th November 2005, 02:39
I am 18 with no no claims and i got insured on a vts with my alloys, lowering, ICE and induction kit declared and i pay 2300 fully comp with pass plus with quinn.
Also found that puttin my mum as a named driver saved me a pound which i can use for modifications smileys/smiley17.gif

Well i havent got any quates with my grilfriend or my mother on the insurance. Also that was full comp, Im going to try adding a me mother to the insurance and see how much it drops by then,
Ill also see how much it is 3rd party fire and theft... But no offence to those who want to critisize me.. If i can afford to pay it I will...
You may call me stupid or mad but its my life and ill live it how i wish.. I mean none of you even know me to even be saying that i cant afford to pay 4-5k on insurance. So leave me be and if you wish to help then i will happily take any contructive help like (someone giving me a link to a good insurance company for instance).
But anyway this is all i have to say... Thank you for those who have give me the links.
(sean i arn't a bit simple i just know what i want in life smileys/smiley17.gif,)

I've been driving 1 year, 1 month and 30 days and have had 2 cars. My first car was a Nova 1.3 SR that cost me £50 smileys/smiley3.gif Insurance on that with PassPlus was £1800 smileys/smiley3.gif smileys/smiley3.gif smileys/smiley3.gif
Yes it stang, but under my own name I knew I was building up my N/C bonus.
In March this year I was going over a roundabout when a 50yo TWAT pulls out and goes straight in the side of me. Although blatently innocent, I lost my N/C bonus and PassPlus as I was the 'stereotypical' 17yo 'Boy-Racer' and he was the 'respectable' 50yo with about 20 years N/C bonus. I have since lost all faith in any sort of fair justice.....
But, things were looking up.......
After 3 years hard saving (as the Nova was a stepping stone) I brought a MINT 1.4 Westcoast. After adding a Clifford CAT1 G5 Alarm my insurance was £1250 TPFT (elephant.co.uk) after driving 1 year, CAT1, and having PassPlus re-instated (at least I got that back after big ball-ache)
So, although it might not hold alot of 'street-cred', start small, crash the shitter, become more experienced, build up YOUR OWN N/C bonus and move on to bigger and better things mate.

PeeBee that was admiral, Ive shoped around since and got it down to 3200. I dont think thats so bad considering what ive got on it!.
I also got quates on,
Getting it lowered,
Window tints,
Uprated Brakes,
Interior Re-Trim
The final quate ended at 3,842 or something like that!

Cloud- you might not be simple but no-one in their right mind would pay that for insurance. like steve said, i wouldnt pay that to insure an evo or a cosworth, never mind a saxo vtr.
Tony_Jay86
27th November 2005, 20:37
Dont use the internet to get quotes, they rip you off, i get quotes on my 1.1 saxo & the cheapest i found online was £2k, now which 19 year old lad with pass plus would pay £2k insurance on a 1.1 saxo, no1 would.
Get a list of phone numbers together & get ringing around, you'll soon see the prices drop, use £3,200 as your guide line, if they ask if you have already had a quote say *yes, i had a quote of £3,000 fully comp* that way iam sure they will knock a few quid off & once you have rang around a few insurers iam sure you'll get a decent price.

If you have a car magazine such as fast car, max power, reline etc, turn to the back & look threw the insurance page, you should get alot of numbers from there & theres a very small fraction that specialize in young drivers with modified cars, if you dont have a magazine then you could go out & buy one, or you could let me know & i'll give you all the numbers if you want.
James
27th November 2005, 21:37
I have a couple of magazines with numbers etc.. Cheers for the offer though. I will be sure to do this at the first chance i get. Thanks

wasnt calling you simple mate or saying you couldnt afford was just pointing out them quotes are stupidly expensive for lots of cars way faster n nicer than a vtr
i'd ring round the companies instead of getting online quotes aswell speaking to someone on the end of the phone usually gets you a better quote than an online one also if its costing that much to insure why dont you go on your parents insurence till your 19 n try again when more companies will cover you n it will be cheaper
