Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has been named Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year for the first time in his glittering career.

Have to admit he has had one hell of season, but i do find it hard to believe that he hadn't won it before.

this whole award is a joke. Sorry but like said before the only reason why it has been said is because he as delivered some constant decent games, one ok goal and the fact he is a fossil + united are going to win the leauge.#

Vidic deserves it so more, or even many other players........

Well I'm a Chelsea Supporter and as for Giggs winnning the award i say its well deserved, bout time he got it. one moment that sticks in my mind is the FA Cup final against Arsenal IIRC and he done like 4/5 players then scored. I'm sure a lot of other people can remember that. Well deserved.

All the players in the Premiership felt sorry for him, so they all had a little meeting and decided they'd all vote for Giggs. They also got him a congratulations card from Tesco, and a packet of Wine Gums.

Agreed, at our clubs end of season presentations, the players player of the year is normally one you wouldnt expect. Players see things different to us fans.

Plus Giggs has had a fantastic season in every role he has played.

Over the last 15 years he has been class. I do feel that they (the players..) voted for him because he hasn't won it before, he is a legend, and they don't like Ronaldo/Gerrard/Vidic/Rooney/Lampard (& anyone else who is normally in contention) winning all the awards. Having said that, he is the most decorated football player in English Football.

Given his age, to still be cutting it in the best league in the world as a "winger" deserves some recognition. I, personally, just don't feel he has been the Premier League's best player this (2008/09) season.
