Ive had my 16v lump in my car for a couple of months now, and tbh i, starting to get bored of it. So, i am toying with the idea of cams and a remap. Although, i can get a 2000 Clio Sport for a very very good price! Its not much more than the cams and a remap. Thing is im gonna need bigger brakes and bigger wheels depending on the brakes. I really like the 172's but i wouldnt mind getting some opinions on them. I do like the fact you get your luxuries with the clio, such as the half leather seats, and they feel more solid. Im swinging towards the clio tbh.....

leather is a hell of a lot better to look at than is is to sit on.
saxo is more fun to drive.
think most people will be slightly biased toward the saxo, tis a saxo forum after all.
but still plenty of good points to the clios, safety for starters.

The seats in the clio are perfectly comfortable. More so then my saxo seats were

was meaning leather in general, sofas included.anytime ive sat on a leather sofa ive slid onto the floor within minutes.
bare arm or leg on a leather seat in very hot/cold conditions is a shock.
maybe i just dont like leather,s&m gear excluded obviously !

id personally mod the vts engine more now uve spent getting it in, because itll be alot more fun to drive and quicker than a 172, tho a 172 is a nicer car in general i wouldnt upgrade because ur bored of the 16v lump because ull get bored of a clio alot quicker imo..

Keep the sax and go down the cams and remap route, will be a lot more fun ;) and will be like a wolf in sheeps clothing.

You're asking on a Saxo forum lol... A CS is just as fun to drive if not more fun, as you don't feel like a kid/chav driving it as much (well not me anyway, I'm 24) as I did with the 106GTi.

Great cars, better built, performance to match/better standard VTS in all areas. Get the better car as standard imo.

I've owned both... and would never go back.

i'd go with a 172, doesnt sound like your bored with the power. your bored with the saxo full stop imo.

change is good sometimes, remaping and caming a saxo may be fun, but how long till your bored then?

Same could be said for the clio, how long before you get bored of that and the next car.

Both good cars, depends what you want, clio is alot more refined

thats the point lee, he doesnt know lol.

clio does a lot more than the saxo imo, all respect to a vts but the clio is a better car. if you just want power and fun and thats all that matters to him, cam and re map the vts.

I personally would go for the Clio, however ive only owned a VTR haven't driven a VTS/GTi so slightly one sided.

Take it your going for the Mark 2 Phase 1 Clio yeah?

It will be a mk2 phase yes. The reason im asking on here is because i know a few of you have them and have had a saxo. I look at it this way. I can spend £800 on cams/remap and get the 155bhp claimed by everyone who has done it. Or, i can start with 172bhp and cam/remap (eventually, if i feel the need). I just feel its a better way to start. Plus i can get it with low milage, new cambelt for about a grand, from a mates parents.

seems like you made your choice mate.

leeroybrown

And prior to that I pad 3k for a 30k mileage one 2 years before, so aint come down that much in price tbh

+1

You wont really see your money back with the cams etc.

Might aswel just get a 172 and see if you really need cams with that.

Because personally I think you'll find that if you leave them how they are they are great for pootling about town and then if you want a small heart attack hit the loud pedal.

I havent made my choice, i wanna know if they are a more fun car to drive. I love my saxo, especially after the hard work ive put into it. But, i wanna know if im getting a bargain. Is a cammed/remapped vts much quicker than a 172?

leeroybrown
