If the lambda sensor is misfunctioning, does this mean that it could make the fuel run too rich??

it can affect fueling yes, if its the one before the cat thats faulty..

are they easy to fit? or is it best to leave it to a garage?

easy peasy... the connector is probably the hardest part
22mm spanner, attack the lambda and loosen it off (best to do it when the piping is warm btw. trace the wiring back to the connector... use a flat head screw drive to lift a locking tab (comes out a long way) then disconnect.
replace with fresh lambda :)

Standard manifold?
it's in the manifold... look for a black wire in that area :y:
