Can anyone shed some light on what I found when I ran a HPI check on a car I'm looking at tonight?

Going to look at a car tonigh for my gf. It's a 53 plate Civic type r

I ran an HPI check last night and it states that there is interest registered against a previous plate

Here's a copy and paste

The current plate was transferred to this vehicle on 23/02/2009

DAY43Y was applied to this vehicle on 31/12/2003
This VRM has been recorded as having an outstanding finance agreement
An outstanding finance agreement was recorded on 28/02/2009 against a HONDA CIVIC 20I VTEC TYP

A private plate was put on the car when the first owner bought it straight from the showroom. The guy who now owns it put the standard 53 plate on the car February this year as shown above.

I'm trying to figure out if the above means if the outstanding finance is with the personal plate or the actual Civic

The HPI check states there is no outstanding finance on the car
It does however state there is interest registered against a previous plate

I'm confused. Phoned the helpline and they said they can look into it for me but I might not get an answer today.
Anyone experienced this before?

No idea mate. He is the second owner and the private reg was put on the car when it was forst registered on 31/12/2003.

He has stuck the original 53 plate on it this year.

it's done 85k, early facelift and is only asking for £4.5k
I'd buy it tonight but the alarm bells are ringing.... too good to be true?

It may be noting, like the finance company not updating records when recieving final payment. It could however be major. THe guy has owned it since 2006 and is in his 30s.

I know I may be missing out on a good buy as the car looks clean and is only 6 miles away. He was honest enough to say there was a dent on the rear pannel and he has a quote from dent master to get it pulled out but never mentioned what I would find on the car check.

I think if I was to buy the car these thoughts would always be at the back of my mind so I'm prob gona leave it.

I know what you mean but whatever explanaion he gives me he won't be able to change the cars HPI record. I'll give him a call at the end of the day and see if he would take a deposit untill the rac get back to me.

Or for him to call the DVLA to get the history sorted

Whats the original plate>? do a check on the 53 plate bit, might be finance on the actual plate instead of the car, might be finance on the car thus meaning they got it on finance and have not payed it all of, but they may sell it and pay of the settlemeant figure a lot of people do!

The check was ran through the origional 53 plate.

I think the worst that could happen is me explaning this story if I ever sold the car. Not sure what would happen if with insurance if I was to claim on it.

I think I would feel better once the hpi people get back to me. Was just interested if anyone has came across this before. I'll still see what the guy has to say when I call him as I aranged to see it tonight

The rac phoned me back. Didn't expect them to get back to me today.

They said that the 53 plate that is on the car is clear. The private plate has finance against it but it is now on another car.

The finance is only against the plate not the car so I would be safe to buy it and the HPI record should eventualy clear. she is going to send me an email saying the car is clean.

Feel better now. cheers for the replies
