I only noticed today that my Saxo has different size tyres on the front than on the back I was just wondering if this is like a bad thing and does it make much difference???

On the front
145/70/R13

On the back
155/70/R13

Also does anyone know what the correct tyre pressure should be for a 99 1.1i Saxo?

its fine, will be safe and drive fine, but come mot time it will fail, as you need the same size all around, i would just get 2 changed just befor mot

presser veryes on who you speak to but 32-34 is about right for most cars

What does a garage look at during an MOT test?

Components tested during your MOT test:
for cars...

Vehicle identification number - a vehicle identification number must be permanently displayed and legible on a vehicle first used on or after 1 August 1980

Registration plate - condition, security, legibility and format of letters/numbers

Lights - condition, operation, security and correct colour. The headlamps will also be checked to see if the aim is correct

Steering and suspension - correct condition and operation

Wipers and washers - operate to give the driver a clear view of the road

Windscreen - condition and drivers view of the road

Horn - correct operation and type

Seatbelts - all seatbelts installed are checked for type, condition, operation and security. All compulsory seatbelts must be in place

Seats - front seats secure. Front and rear backseats can be secured in the upright position

Fuel system - no leaks, fuel cap fastens correctly and seals securely. The fuel cap will need to be opened. Make sure the key is available

Exhaust emissions - vehicle meets the requirement for exhaust emission. These vary on the age and fuel type of the vehicle

Exhaust system - complete, secure, without serious leaks and silences effectively

Vehicle structure - free from excessive corrosion or damage in specific areas. No sharp edges

Doors - open and close. Latch securely in closed position. Front doors should open from inside and outside the vehicle. Rear doors may need to be opened to gain access to testable items

Mirrors - presence, condition and security

Wheels and tyres - condition, security, tyre size and type, and tread depth. Spare tyres are not tested

Brakes - condition, operation and performance (efficiency test). Suitable vehicles will be tested on a roller brake tester. Vehicles such as those with permanent 4-wheel drive will be tested either on a suitable road using a properly calibrated and maintained decelerometer or, if one is installed at the test station, a plate brake tester

What if I think it has wrongly passed?

These cases usually relate to recently purchased vehicles and you should let VOSA know as soon as possible. VOSA will then offer an appointment within 5 working days to recheck your vehicle without charge, provided:

* not more than 28 days have elapsed since the MOT test
* not more than three months have elapsed since the MOT test for a rust or corrosion related problem

Do you think I should contact VOSA? cause the car was bought on the bases of a 12months MOT, so it had its test a few days after a payed, so anything that needed changing was upto him to sort out and pay for

tecnicly yes but i woulnt moan if i was you lol

Wheels and tyres - condition, security, tyre size and type, and tread depth. Spare tyres are not tested

althow the list is basic it does give some idea here

edit ok then tbh i would tell the guy its a bent mot and unless it gets sorted at a proper garage your going to the police,
cas it thay havent looked at the tyres then chances are it hasnt been moted and was just writen out (yes you can still get bent mots, i no a few people that do them, but i like to no my cars safe so dont use them)

it is only a mot failure if its differnt sizes on the same axle, how u have it is fine! ring any mot station and they will say the same, that is fully legit mate dont worry! common mistake made / thought.

I've just looked on some websites and the saxo is not even ment to have 145/70/R13 tyres on the car.

Its either ment to be 155/70/R13 or 165/70/R13, do you think I should change them?

I have the Haynes Manual at hand and there is nothing about tyre sizes

If you got bigger ones on the rear then I wouldn't worry, thats my opinion

its just the width thats different and with it being a front wheel drive car it should be the other way round with the wider ones on the front, cause I will get less traction and greater stopping distances

Registration: S782DTO

as said it's NOT an mot failure and 666 is wrong, ur allowed different size wheels, widths, sidewall heights etc on front and rear axel, just have to be the same left to right! Google tyre calculator and see what the diffence is. Fronts are slightly narrower and the sidewall will be slightly smaller, prob aout 0.5mm or something ull never notice like that. There fine bud

all MR2s did

and all MR2s with an LSD had 16" as standard on the rear and 15" on the front

you can use any tyres as long as they are legal same size on the same axle, and arent fouling the body or suspension components

I wouldn't be bothered say if it had:

On the front
155/70/R13

On the back
165/70/R13

Just that Citroen had like 155/70/R13 as minimum and I’m running 145/70/R13 so it might be dangerous, I’m sure Citroen have put that for a reason?

the bigger size tyres on rear axle

kingcartwright

I've just thought on the spare is a 155/70/R13... so what if my front tyre burst, what would that do to the handling untill I could get to a garage?

some people really have no idea!

please explain how running a 145/70/r13 tyre can be dangerous on a standard wheel.

answer.... it isnt.
