does you insurance limit you to engine size? punto 1.2 sporting is similar speed to vtr (on paper) but is the same insurance group iirc, and i bet will probably cost more to insure than a vtr

Firstly there's no such thing as a fast 1.2 hatchback. Secondly don't assume it will be cheap to insure just because of the engine size. There are a few nippy 1.2 16v's about but how much it costs depends on a number of things, not just it's engine size.

Check out the 1.25 fiesta or a 1.2 16v Punto or Clio.

i was on my dads company insurance so insuring my VTR was really cheap but now he has sold his buiness and has cancelled the insurance and i was quoted over £2500 for insurance which i cant afford even 1.4's were quite expensive for me to get insured on

fezza 1.25 zetec puts out 75bhp and their quite restricted few mods here and there and they shoul be able to stay with a vtr.

Saxos are quick off the more in my experience, Fiesta's are dont pack quite as much punch off the line but have a good top speed...not that you will be going over 70 or anything

If your looking for cheap Insurance, stay away from any Saxo, Corsa, Nova.

It's cheaper for me to get insured on a Clio 172 than a VTS, just because of the tag that goes with the Saxo, despite the 172 being 2 groups higher.

Clio 1.4s are only Insurance group 4/5, and was cheaper to Insure than my 1.1 Saxo. If you can get the 16v version it's 100bhp 10ish to 60 and go to about 115, so a fraction slower than a VTR, but also a lot safer and cheaper to Insure.

I was getting quoted silly prices for a clio 172, couldnt get anything cheaper than £700, managed to get the VTS insured for £460, which insurance company you with?

Oh and back to the original question. Get a Seat Arosa Sport, 1.4 16v, 100bhp and insurance group 5.

A fast 1.2 ?!?

I must be missing something here cos every 1.2 ive drove has been a piece of crap that barely makes it to 70 ?!

-Dan-
3rd May 2009, 10:29
Thats a MoneySupermarket quote from both. Cheapest for VTS was £986, Clio 172 was £922. Mind you the 172 was a quote from a performance car company (can't remember the name) and the VTS was with Admiral IIRC.
