View Full Version : Beat a glanza on the motorway

Went for a wee cruise around edinburgh last night for the banter!
Cruised about harassing durty wimen!
Had my brother and my mate in the car, both wrecked!
On the way back, just got off the bridge on the way home, a red glanza was harrassing me, it was down to single land due to roadworks.
As soon as they finished he hammered it into the outside lane, so i put the foot down!
My brother decided it was a good idea to stand up out the sunroof and give him abuse lol
He seemed to be gunning it but didnt make it past?
We were side by side up to 75mph then i left him to it.
Surely a glanza is a wee bit faster than a vts?

I do know as the car gets older if it's not looked after properly it loses horses and that could be the cause of you beating it.
Or your car is just far better

Ive had a starlet GT Turbo the older style one
I got to say there bloody quick cars, would have a vts 0-60 but im sure the vts will stick with it after that due to the fact they have smaller engines etc.

Whats the point of having a sporty car, or modifying a car, if you never use it?
If he had said he was racing through roads in public areas yeah Hed be a twat but he was just sayin he had a bit of fun with a guy on the motorway. Even old dudes do that. People on this site need to stop being saints and lighten up tbh its pathetic

How can you tell? His speedo said 75mph, but the clocks are normally out by 10%.
He could have been doing more, or could have been doing less. and come on, 5mph over? hardly excessive speeding is it.

70mph plus, in a saxo, on the motorway at night, with a drunken mate hurling abuse from the sunroof. The police would probably either be too shocked or pissing themselves to much to do anything :D

And whilst travelling at 70mph your brother unclips his seatbelt and stands out of the sunroof to give abuse?
Fair enough it was your bro but ask him kindly to put his belt on in future no matter how pissed.
The racing doesnt bother me, yes it's immature and yes it could have been dangerous but you didnt excessively do so or in a dangerous area so I respect you for that, but the other things make you sound a bit daft.
The glanza turbo, I'm sure its fairly even but I'm not geared up on most JC.

Cool, i agree mate
Harassing is an expression mate, surely everyone does this?

Mate opened the door when overtaking a lorry on the motorway, I punched him in the face and got the passenger in the rear to lock the door.
Had to give alot of apologies in the morning. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it ;)
I got followed other day by a Starlet. He was right up my arse so I purposely went 10mph under the limit to cheese him off. He then overtook me, so I thought I'd have a little play, he obviously went past me but not as quickly as I'd of expected.

Standard form they're about the same as a VTS, maybe a little slower, I find.
But admitting to racing/speeding on a public forum is a good way to get yourself in trouble with the law. ;) Hence everyone saying its a stupid thing to say.

Regardless of whether people think "racing" is ok or not admitting it on a public forum not only runs the risk of being black marked by the police but threads like this are the ones that give sax-p a bad image.
The title impies you were racing, which on public roads is illegal

Standard Glanza's from what i have heard and read aren't anything special, but, they can become a sick sick car with some tweeking.
Maybe you "beat" the Glanza as he didn't fancy breaking the speed limit to prove a point, also to an onlooker a guy hanging outta a sunroof shouting abuse is not a good look atall and more than enough to get a section 59, you would be the person getting it tho as is your car ;)
On a side note, i would happily take a glanza over a 106/saxo any day of the week

glanza's are 130bhp standard iirc but weigh more than the Saxo
the GT verision is lighter with same engine therefore quicker
doesnt take much money to be running a LOT more boost (and im not just talking cheapo crappy mods to enhance performance but reduce reliability)
either way. gay thread and ibtl

standard, the vts is faster raced a few n seen a few race. Glanzas are always slower.
Heliosphan
3rd May 2009, 09:39
There are so many factors that affect who wins a race. If it's a street race the winner is usually the person most prepared to kill themselves or someone else.
Glanza V is slightly lighter than a Vts (925Kg) and is about half a second quicker to 60mph. In the real world, you'll hardly feel the difference. Then factor in the condition of the car, driver skill and the difference becomes even more insignificant.

To be honest i think everyone puts their foot down now and again but dont expect to be hailed with praise when you boast about breaking the law on a public forum, especially when you look at how many people die each year due to reckless driving and speeding :n:

Your right saying thats not the limit but it is the cut off for what your allowed. If your crusing at 80 and not driving like a wang youll 9/10 get away with it.
If you start banging on about your allowed to 78.9* (is what it actully is) youll jsut get a ticket.

That is really a common misconception. It's all down to the discretion of the offer that spots you going over 70. They are allowed to be discreet within boundaries, if they so wish but don't have to be ;)
If you caught one on a bad day and they caught you doing 71 on a motorway and wanted to take you court with conclusive evidence you would receive a 60 quid fine and 3 points

Or if that's true, then there must be something wrong with the one's that only crawl past me, and yes, that's trying. A standard VTS pulls away from me quicker than a Glanza.
The reason they 'feel' quick is cause of the kick from the boost coming in.
Oh, and a Glanza is 7.1 to 60, it's the Starlet GT that's 6.9 to 60. :)

Well a couple of my mates had both a glanza and a VTS about a year ago and we had a session one night of setting up quarter mile drags with other cars we had,
Both cars had the exact same modification wise, coilovers and uprated air induction kits.
The VTS took off better, but there was really no competition after that, as soon as the glanza spooled it was off. It wasnt complete destruction but there was a good two car lengths.
My mates car is well maintained for a 1996, but no rebuilds.
i recently got my VTS, i wish his car was what it was a year ago as i would happily drag him as the VTS is fresh with only 40k on the clocks but since then he has front mounted it and turned the boost up with filters off the turbo and its just mental how fast it is, like i said he keeps up with my mates celica GT4 :L
with most old cars though its all about engine condition, But i would worry more about a Citroen engine wearing than a toyota imo

A celica gt4 is not a gauge for speed.
There heavy, dosile, and 4wd.
There shit slow and handle like noahs ride.

ive done one too, i was genuinely gobsmacked so was my mate driving his you know when you had your play did you find as he was changing gear coming off the boost you still had more to go in every gear and everytime he changed your car got more infront. these were also rolling starts i found up to 40-50 his was a little bit quicker then into 60-70 even stevens after that it was a bit of a blur(we wont mention how fast)

Smart arse. The speed limit on Motorways is a maximum 70mph, not 79mph.....
What in your little mind thinks 79mph is the new speed limit???
LOL i agree , if your asked in your theory test the speed limit the correct answer would be 70 , not 10 +2 - 10 %_2 )Pie A214 -10 = 79mph

How long till this gets closed lol
ibtl, I was told by a 'office of the law' that an allowance of 10% of the limit is there for innacuracy within spedometers. Therefore if it says your going 70 in the car and your speedo is a little out them you shouldnt get a fine. However a family friend had a speedign ticket from a fixed camera for 31 mph. So as said its how the law is interpreted i guess. With officers on the road cant really go wrong with staying with the flow of traffic.

tbf the saxo vts, starlet gt turbo arent that far diff 0-60 etc people seem to forget turbo cars get lag, there is also a lot more to go wrong and affect performance of a turbo car e.g boost leak fcuked actuator playing up, (not saying saxo's don't) he may even be running low boost due to engine work recently carried out (how many passengers did he have?) I play with cars and turn boost down on my avcr to 0.8 bar in my pgt just to see how much faster other cars would be (not taking anything from you hear mate) you're saxo could be uber rapid, but you will never know if he was trying or not unless you know that person you race ;)
Your right saying thats not the limit but it is the cut off for what your allowed. If your crusing at 80 and not driving like a wang youll 9/10 get away with it.
If you start banging on about your allowed to 78.9* (is what it actully is) youll jsut get a ticket.
Matt.
It's 85mph on the motorway anyway. 79 on a national speed limit dual carriageway.

Tbh a std glanza vs a std S would be fairly even. Who gives a fek if he gave it a little on the motorway (i forgot everyone's a saint on here lol)
I had a Corsa VXR up my ass the other night tapping it forward making it dump then his passenger shook his fist at me and told me my car was shit.. they get in to the outside lane and i write them a new one whilst they are accelerating... (up to 70 of course because breaking the law is bad)

Ill give everyone £10 who doesnt go over 70mph on a motorway on occasions, i go about 75ish because you get 10% and everyone in the middle lane is traveling in excess of 70mph anyway.
And if your on your own, empty motorway, early hours, no avg speedcameras, why not blow the old cobwebs out, people on here dont half bitch about speeding and yes speeding is silly but its a bit peti when its a few MPHs more on a dead motorway.. Come on saxp lighten up :)

for 1) its a 1.3 glanza, so hardly anything to gloat over.
2) racing in any kind boasting about it means your :homme:
3) he just admitted he broke the speed limit....
bai baiii:panic:
1. its a GLANZA, the 1.3 non turbo version is called a starlet, the turbo is a starlet GLANZA
2. i dont have to race, i regularly take the roundabout at the bottom of my street about 90 on the wrong side of the road.. im not gay?
3. i usually only break the speed limit once on the motorway.. usually because i dont slow back down..
leave the boy alone god sake.. :homme:

I agree with VTR Chris- They are quick cars. To pull away with two passengers and the extra drag of ure bro out the sunroof is impressive! Is your VTS standard? Ive raced a Glanza round the twisty stuff in my mates type r- and that stuck to our arses in the twisty stuff. Prolly had a hybrid turbo on it. Rapid them.

hahahahaha thats just epic
i dont understand this whole ***** v ***** just if you are that arsed just buy a caterham/atom/westfield. But you dont, do you? No because speed isnt the be all and end all on the public roads.
