Im going to look at a year 2000 cagiva mito 125 tomorrow and want to know what to look out for on these bikes?
It has had a engine re-build and looks like its been well looked after with 10 months mot left on it.
Is there anything i should have a good look at before i buy it?
Thanks for any info.

very nice bikes but also very high maintenance i think, pretty much on par with the rs 125 but they are easier to maintain, not really much to look out for on a 125 bike as there pretty simple

Cheers i thought i would just on here first before i look at it.I cant wait to get it now.I know they do need to be looked after well as the can be un-reliable if they not.
Im pretty sure they are the fastest 125 you can get, from what i have read about them.
They're ok bikes, much prefer the RS125..quickest 125 out the lot from MCN when they did a review and was the 2nd best handling bike of all time once.
Just check the usual stuff, check condition of chain and sprockets like if theres any teeth missing and that its been lubed up, check suspension damping, check theres plenty of 2 stroke oil in it, check if the exhaust is blowing, condition of brake discs/pads, any oil leaks, has it got a powervalve on it? restricted? test ride it to see, can't think of anything else really. Apparently parts for it is hard to source.

also heard the parts can be a nightmare, have you looked into rs 125's they can also be alot cheaper to buy

I was looking at the aprilla rs 125 but i much prefer the look of the cagiva mito and i have read a fair bit about both bikes now and it seems that the cagiva has better straight line speed than the rs and a has a tiny bit better top end(only by 2 or 3mph).Cheers for the info i will make sure i have a really good look at everything on the bike.It is still restricted,so the engine clutch ect should of had a easyer life.

I have looked at getting a rs but they dont look anywhere near as nice as the cagiva mito imo, plus they dont seem to be much cheaper either.

Every bike is different, especially how they've been run in determinds how much output the engine gives out(ok maybe not huge bhp but it helps) like if you put 2 same bikes and 1 hasn't been run in properly then 1's going to perform better than the other later on.
From my experience, 2 mates of mine had a mito, 1 was the 6 speed and the other 7 speed and they couldn't touch me in the straight or twisties (could be down to rider though) but it's up to you, go for it if you've got your heart set to 1, still fun bikes :y:

cagiva has the 7 speed they are really nice bikes, but the rs is bound to be quicker with the amount of performance modifcations you can do to them...there are nice rs out there...

I've got a 2000 one they're 6 speed BTW. Parts aren't hard to come by there's a guy called Rob who runs Mito Mondo who is really helpful in getting parts from Cagiva and there's another place who can get parts in, it use to be 3X but changed to something else.
If its had a top end rebuild it should be fine as long as its been run in properly. As long as its been looked after should be fine just check general wear and tear stuff. Most of them have been down the road at one point so look out for and bad crash damage shouldn't be too bad they crash well.
There's a lot of debate between which is better RS or Mito but IMO rider skill is the biggest factor that would decide which bike is quicker they're too close in terms of performance and handling to judge.

Just generally check all things you would check with a normal bike.
Fork seals
Chain& sprockets
Servicing
tyres
Body condition
With the engine quite hard to say, 2 strokes can be tempremental but personally i have no problem with them, Make sure the revs pick up fine with no hesitation, blue smoke comes out the exhaust, no knocking or dodgy noises.

Mitos do sound like tractors at idle BTW, just thought I'd mention it as you might think something is wrong with it.

ne.jam im looking at spending around 1100.
Jazz the bloke had a shit start and hes bike could of been resticted.A de-resticted cagiva mito would beat a vts to 60 easy.

Old and outdated imo.
The Aprilia RS125 are easy to work on like most 2 strokes tbh. Both Aprilia RS125 and Cagiva Mito come with Brembo calipers as standard aswell.

Nice biked mate, quick for a 125 aswell. if it isn't the model with a plastic tank check the fuel filter cause often the tanks rust out bad. but if not then snap it up.
