only insurance group 5 iirc?

206 was the worse car i ever had, kept going wrong, everything constantly needed replacing (was even worse than my saxo on realiability) :wall::wall: getting one was the worse mistake ive ever made ........... hope this helps :D never had any of the others but my cousin has a clio which is pretty nippy for a 1.2 and he loves it :y:

Sure its not a 2.0 HDI? never heard of a 1.9 hdi...sorry to nitpick
I personally don't see it as an upgrade mate, but is up to you I suppose. Why not look for a Westie or a Furio? Good mod-ability, pretty nippy, nice looks, and will defo take the SS? Also Lol @ 172, If he can't afford VTR Insurance, I don't really think an Insurance group 16 car will appeal much... haha.

Beat it at what? Beat it at being heavy, slow and girly maybe... but not a lot else

Go VAG!! May be boring etc, but can look the mutz if going for the Euro look... and also pretty reliable, and hold their value well (which for those not on a full time salary has got to be a big plus)
To reiterate above posts; A 206 is a girls car, you dont want a girls car do you?

My first car was a 206, in my case, nothing went wrong, AT ALL.
Its a solid comfy car tbh.
I'd only get a 206 after 53 tbh since they did a face lift.....changed the boot a bit and the front and rear lights and the puegeot badges.....and the interiors were better....your decision though.

Yes they look ok and are lower on insurance. I went and tried a 1.4 GLX before getting the 'S.
Felt horrible to drive. Peddles felt weird and the gear stick could have snapped at any second as it didnt seem very strong, also seemed up in the air.
As said, go for an 'R or 'S if you can afford it or stick with a 1.1i if you just want it for A - B.
Id say get one if you want mate, my mum had one from new and 8 years on, not a single thing wrong with it at all....

And yes saxo's are dustbins on wheels but thats not the point you don't need to be mr hawking to know that a 1.6 quite light dustbin is quicker than a 1.4 heavy 206

Mates a bit of a shit driver to be fair, but its still pretty slow
I drive a 206 gti. Coming from a vtr they are quicker. If you can get one with all the mod cons. Climate control etc. It can feel sometimes that you do sit more on the car and not in it but according to most journos it's the same in a 172 but you never hear about people on here complaining about them. I'm not sure on the bore of the exhaust. The gti gas a wider bore than any saxo but the majority of other models share the same engines so in theory shouldn't be different!

Yeah i think im going to pass a 206 haha, as for a 1.1i it may happen but id rather save longer for a civic as they seem very smart.
