Took mine 2 years ago, easier than car test I reckon (probably because I've been riding for 2 years before). Cost me about £350 altogether and that was for 3 lessons, test and hire of their bike. Probably gone up now though.

If you're aged 17 - 20, you can ride any bike as long as its restricted to 33bhp. After 2 years of passing your test you aren't restricted any more.

At 21 and older, you take a test which is called direct access which allows you to ride anything with no restrictions.

So you can go from no biking experience, to riding a Ducati 998 or 1100?

Thats a bit dangerous isnt it?

Yes hence the reason its now all changed.

Direct access is now aged 25 (i think)

EDIT: After just checking I don't think the age has change. If you are younger than 21 the only way to get a beefy bike is to ride it restricted for 2 years.

Yeah pretty much, if they can afford insurance on them.

But when you crash/have an accident and the bike and your licence gets checked then you're fucked. It's the rider's choice though, I never had mine restricted and don't need to be any more :A:

Be more of a dick!

That's like insuring your car without mods and a 1.0l engine and then putting a 2.0 turbo in.
