When i had flat spots was told by a garage to change the air filter, spark plugs and leads, bleed the rad dont know why... But when i did all it still kept doing it...till one day went to start my car and it would not start head gasket went.... Hope you get it sorted matey... Try the spark plugs and leads ;)

Try doing the free stuff first like remove and clean the injectors, clean ICV, clean the throttle body then move on to the cheaper stuff like new plug's, coolant temp sensor, fuel filter. Hope you sort it, get's a bit more expensive after the above are done if it hasn't cured it.

what is meant by flat spots? are they really obvious or is it just the car feeling sluggish as if you have lots of passengers in?

no i meant does it feel like you have tonnes of extra weight in the car, but if it feels like someones turned it off then im not getting flat spots :)

Mines like that at the mo. Been told that head has gone and 1/2 valves are knackered. Gets me to work and back but thats about it. Anything over 3 miles away I have no chance, car just dies. The mechanic is amazed the car is still running!!

Try some fuel additive like REDEX which will clean your fuel system through, sounds like a build up of carbon.

When you accelerating and rev are going up and it feels like its pulling everywhere, when you get a flat spot the engine drops to idle revs and trust me it's worrying going up a hill.
To poster: You don't have a cone filter do you? If so that was what was causing flat spot for me the intake of hot air.
