View Full Version : Got me a Saxo, now for a few questions ;]

Well, I turned 17 last December, and I've just bought a 2002 Saxo for my first car, but I do have some questions..And beware, they are complete car novice questions.

The car is lowered, and it has 13/14" alloys, what can I do to the car for 15" alloys to fit? (Wheels are very close to wheel arch).

The nuts on the wheels are rusted - do they need replacing, or is there any good "de-rustifying" method?

One of the rear fog lights doesn't work, and the reverse light on the same side doesn't work either. The filament in the bulbs looks fine, and I've cleaned the connectors etc. The other side is fine though
^The left hand side indicator light wasn't working properly, but cleaning the connector / moving the bulb seems to have done the trick.

Might have a few more questions later, but that's all for now.

Thanks alot in advance ;]

how much is it lowered by? if your going to buy new alloys you miteaswell wait to buy them and then get new bolts. Try checking your fuses to make the lights work.

Hey Lee,

I'll let the experts advise you on wheels.

As for rusty bolts - replace them if you prefer the look of shiny ones. If you choose some neat alloys then change the bolts for alloy ones too, as steel on alloy can cause oxidisation.

If you want to test bulbs and can't work a multimeter, then swap the bulb with one you know is working.

Which side's rear fog and reverse light are not working?

Cheers and welcome

What saxo have you got?

15's will go on most without probs but anything 195 and wider can/will rub on the flat arches.

Have you checked your fuses, as said. And are the bulbs definately ok? Swap them with each other to make sure. And the saxo's only have one rear fog mate.

It's the passenger side lights. Will go try changing the bulbs over in a minute. I'm not too sure about the fuses though, because I'd of thought that would cause both sides not to work ;S

yeah but once on one of my fuses, the fuse was like half gone. like it was burnt but still slightly touching this made both lights very dim. Random i know but its worth a try.

Sorry for double post, but I couldn't see an edit button ;S

And the saxo's only have one rear fog mate.
Really?? I feel stupid now, lmao. I thought it would be on both sides, because there's a bulb in the other side too.

Now I only need to solve the reverse light. Will swap the bulbs and post here if anything changes.

Thanks for the help =]

Lee,

If there is a bulb there then I would expect it to work as the car manufacturers wouldn't bother putting in a connection and bulb if they didn't need to. Try swapping that too.

Tip: use your wheel brace in the boot to undo the plastic wing nuts and use it to tighten it backup but don't break them... The rubbers around the rear light fitting need to be compressed enough to keep the water out. You'll find the wheel brace just fits over these plastic wing nuts.

Cheers

Well I'll have to check the lights tomorrow, not enough space outside (I live on a VERY crowded street, with no drive/garage).

Another question; My car is fitted with a 'Toad' alarm/locking, and it's set to autolock the doors when the ignition is started, which is a pain in the arse (It deadlocks it..). There is hardly any information on the internet, apart from it can be disabled with a 4 digit code, which I don't have.

Any idea where to start? I don't know the model of the alarm either, I just know it's made by toad.

I've only got 1 rear fog because the other isnt wired up? Should be a piece of plastic covering the hole where the bulb is on the one without a fog...

Get some pics up mate.

I'll get some up soon =] It's quite hard to get good angles when you're parked in the busiest street imaginable..It's actually war round here getting a parking space.
