Okay so in a few months i'll be turning 21...
looking to upgrade the car to something more powerful, as insurance will hopefully be reduced significantly.
obvious choices are a VTS... Impreza i was thinking of or a Supra...
On a budget of say, £2000, daily driver... any reccomendations?

dont rush into anything too pricey to run/repair or you will hate it
A vts is a cracking car, cheap to fix etc
what sort of money do you have for the car + insurance, how much do you earn etc

Big question is can you actually afford the running costs of those cars?

Well im a student... but i earn probably about £600 per month... so id be paying insurance monthly.
obviously reliability etc are issues but im just having a throw around on some options.. obviously im not gonna just buy any old thing..

i think you should wait until you have a full time job, sod working as a student to pay for a flashy car

its not going to be flashy... im just talking something with a bit more go behind it.
maybe something understated...hence why i brought it here see if anyones got any ideas

i been looking at impreza sports the 2litre non turbo version ,seem to be a nice car altho not super fast about same as a vtr to 60 i reckon would be a nice car to drive and have some fun on b roads been awd
I'm a Uni student and I have a Jap performance car, actually got it a month after my 20th. If you want a car go for it, as long as you're sensible with funds being a student shouldn't stop you. Its all about money management. I'm only working part time as well, twice a week sometimes less, have never ever had any trouble running it as a daily driver.

Im a student and I have a VTS, will be selling it this summer however to afford travelling but i would fully recommend getting one, i had a vtr previously and the VTS felt like such an upgrade, as mentioned, repair costs are usually low, and tbh in the 18 months ive had mine i havent had anything major wrong with it.
Insurance should be cheap too i was paying 1600, turned 21 and it went down to 860!

Go for the VTS i say, although the Impreza is tempting!
i'd check insurance, being 21 probably wont make an impreza affordable. my mates nearky 23 with 3 years no claims and cheapest he can insure an impreza for is still £2k+ a year

Good Point right there :y:

i'd rather do time than spend my own money on a non turbo impreza. would be like a fat bird with no tits, pointless
Non turbo scooby is useless. Big drivetrain loss from engine to wheel thanks to 4WD, and not much grunt. Thirsty too. Not particularly good at anything apart from making a WRX replica if you're desperate.

Exactly, if you buy a scooby you buy a proper one.

to be honest about same as a vtr, wont feel as fast due to the size, interior has to be better than a vtr and they cost around the same to buy.
a rep can look good lol, wasnt sure what the mpg would be like on these things

I'd rather roll in a vtr over a non-turbo'd Impreza.

that the name one hat looks like a colt sort of
They're not bad cars, i had a Proton Compact as my first car and it wasn't too bad, obviously yoy have to explain to everyone what one is but hey :homme:
Interior is a bit shit if im honest, though GTi's have recaro seats as standard, air con and electric mirrors. The bodykit doesn't look too bad either, top end is about 120mph though which isn't really impressive for something with a GTi badge :A:
Have a look at www.protonownersclub.co.uk :fcuk:

early 172 possibly?

11th May 2009, 11:52
your gonna be left with 400-500 quid a month after paying insurance presumably so something like a supra is out the question.
a vts or 172 is best, but your still gonna be skint some months.
As said an early 172 would be a very good shout. I'd definitely consider one. 206 gti's can be had for £2k as can 106 gti's, 306 gti 6's and saxo vts's. Also the xsara VTS is there as well. Same engine as the 306.
£2k for a scooby isn't very much. You shouldn't have major problems with it unless it's been modded and personally, i wouldn't bother modding one which is worth £2k. Will become a money pit.
What about a mk2 golf? They are uber cool cars and a 16v in good condition would be easily had within your budget.
