Hi I'm new to the forum and I've just bought a 99 Saxo Furio with 70K on the clock.
First, The noise coming from my clutch, a slight grinding noise when the clutch peddle is up, but when its down it goes. I've searched the forum and it seems that this could be the clutch thrust bearing by all accounts, Any other opinions? They car drives fine and the clutch bite is fine also so????
Second, A strange what sounds like electrical buzzing noise when i have my ignition on, this doesn't change with revs or anything but does change in pitch when i move the steering? Once again, no problems with the steering but the noise can become quite annoying when driving at slow speeds or stationary.
Like i said any advice or tips would be great.
Cheers,
B.

Hey mate,
Not sure about your first problem but your second one seem's odd.
I assume the furio's have powersteering as standard?.. If so mate you might want to check your PAS pump in your engine bay. Have you lowered your furio at all?
If your not moving and you turn your wheel to the left and right do you get a slight "TSSSST" noise when it reaches full lock?..

Not sure bout your first problem either.
But The second does sound like something to do with your power steering. Mine have never done it when just sitting idle. But Its normal to hear a hiss type noise when your on full lock or a whine when you turn- this is jus the pump motor. Both my VTR and Turbo VTS done this. Even my other car does it. Check your power steering fluid level- might just be low and not covering the motor.

Yar, like above check your PAS Fluid level, if your running low you wont hear the Hiss noise as it will instead be trying to basically pump air through instead, not to mention make the steering feel heavy.

Cheers people, Spot on about the PAS fluid and the noise.
Now if i could just work out the slight clutch grind i'll be laughing.

Good stuff :y:
Have you tested your clutch to see how worn it is? Try this:
Start your car up and put it in 4th gear, attempt to pull away in 4th gear. You SHOULD stall. If you dont stall it means your clutch is on its way out and needs replacing.

hey mate,
your first problem could either be your clutch release bearing or the input shaft bearings in ya gear box.
hope this helps

with the first prob i would say clutch release bearing and taking out the clutch would be the only way of checking, i had this mate had to have a new clutch lol fun!

Problem again, It was the PAS, even though that did need filling up, I've now come down to the conclusion that the noise is the fuel pump, as when i take the fuse out for it, the noise stops.
I know the fuel pump primes itself but the noise shouldn't continue all the time while the ignition is on and driving should it.
And on my first problem, can anyone point me in the way of a cheap clutch package?
I reckon it is that so might as well get it done to be on the safe side.
Also can you buy new rocker covers? I just want to tidy the engine up in general, need some wire covers and all that jazz.
Any help again much appreciated.
