Laws gone mad with them!
Its illegal to use on any public land.
Its illegal to use on privet land with out permission.
Its illegal to use on your own land unless your further than 15m from a road.
Its illegal to own one if your under 18 years of age.
Its illegal to give a air weapon as a gift to any one under the age of 18.
Its illegal to simply carry a airgun in public unless you have just reason (eg going from home to gun club)
Its illegal to carry a loaded airgun in public.
Its illegal to carry a loaded airgun in Public that is not secured so inoperable (eg in box or bag)
Its illegal to own, carry or use a air weapon if you are banned from possessing firearms.
Its illegal to shoot domesticated animals.
Its illegal to enter any privet property with a air weapon with out permission.
And so on and so forth (it goes on and on)
Also they are classed as a firearm these days so the minimum jail time for most offences no matter how small is 5 years.

right. the law on air rifles are it cannot exceed 12ft lb's
i work with weapons/air weapons.
if your air weapon exceeds 12 ft lb's it is classed as a section 1 firearm.
section 1 = need a license.
section 5 = Police/ firearms dealers for millitary weapons
Shotgun certificate = you can own a shotgun
due to a board of directors cracking down its called AMTA.
by law to sell air weapons you have to have tests done (which my work does)
a velocity test and a tamper test.
basically tamper test is to see if we can get into the spring or gas chamber and alter the pressures.
sorry for the essay :P

Please tell me you are taking the piss? Just about every single air rifle ever sold can easily be made to surpass the legal limit. My old Rapid you simply had to screw in the back of the breach body and you could take it over the legal limit if you wished. My old BSA you only had to knocked a pin out and you could swap the spring. If you have a gun that takes a stock CO2 bottle you could simply screw on a HPA bottle and that could take you way over the legal limit. Its going to make every air gun ever sold illegal if what you say is true. :n:

Co2 Pistols are hardly worth the effort, they look and feel good, but 5ft lb ish just isnt good enough imo, and they tend to be pretty un accurate.
Love weihrauch's though :p

unfortunatly mate im not taking the piss.
btw its a new thing thats going on.
so old air rifles are still tamper proof.
yeah you can quite easily make your air rifle over 12 ft lb's.
any moron can do it. BUT the law is if your weapon is confiscated and tested and it puts out over 12 ft lb's the owner of the weapon is liable for firearm charges+prosecution.
plus i got caught by the police and nearly charged with firearms offense's. (got let off as i was only young lol)
doesnt look good having firearms offense's and working with firearms.
Lol

Had one once, was told it was around 10 ft lb, but when firing it, it seemed to much for 10, seemed more powerful than my weihrauch which is close to 12ft lb, so i stripped it down, and it turned out the previous owner had put 2 springs in it
Dont know how, just that there where 2 springs in it, would have loved to have gotton a velocity test on it :p

You gave me a shock there Matty as a had a flash back of the old Brocock BACS where they suddenly banned thousands of guns people legally owned. Don't get why they cant just lock up the people braking the laws rather than just making more and more laws that are fucking it up for all the law abiding people. Its not as if criminals take a blind bit of notice of the law after all.

Exactly mate. im not a fan of this law as i shoot air rifles and bolt action/semi's
i hate the fact everything is so bloody restricting.
tbh i think air rifles should be allowed up to 13ft lb's.
lets say you got a rodent of the long tailed kind at 50 yards.
your set up with your rifle. and BANG. you clip the little bastard..
its suffering. its bleeding. you havent had enough energy in your rifle to down that little bitch. 13 ft lb's on the other hand you hit it you will here the pellet go whistling through his little head. lol

I find the Predators + weihrauch = Destruction lol
But yeah, a 12ft lb rifle in someones head is going to do a lot of damage anyway, 1 more lb isnt going to make a huge difference.
A 12.5 ft lb air rifle isnt going to do anywhere near the damage that a actual Gun using cartriges, so i dont see why its classed as a fire arm.
But the funny thing is, you can buy a 250lb cross bow, that ( i found out and is the reason i have been scared to use it because of this ) it will go through about 5 1" thick pieces of hardboard, and 2 doors and still have enough energy to embedd itself in a concrete wall :panic:
Browning 525 12 bore over and under ftw ;)
Thats a dirty word ;-) Beretta ftw!

The new .45s are fantastic hand guns, saying that the old one was brilliant, just the fact that the magazine capacity was a bit shit :p
New one has that covered though :p My top 3 personal choice of handguns would be:
1. New Colt .45
2. Sig Sauer p226
3. Glock 17 or 19
Also ( depsite the magazine capacity ) The Browning High power :D

Don't forget cars as well. You can legaly buy one at any age and they are far more deadly than airguns and bows. In the US there are more cars than guns yet your many times more likely to be killed buy a car. Or smoking or drinking for that matter

Most rifles that are sold as "12 ft lb " are often only about 11 - 11.5 ft lb, just to cover the manufactures backs, just incase it creeps up some how.

I've got some crappy air rifle I got a few years ago. It's a Beeman Silverbear .177 which is 500 fps(about 4lbft) with a scope. Its alright for a mess around in the back garden.
