''High-performance engines typically have higher compression ratios and are therefore more prone to detonation, so they require higher octane fuel. A lower-performance engine will not generally perform better with high-octane fuel, since the compression ratio is fixed by the engine design.'' wikipedia is god,
in high peformance engines, the compression in the cylinders is higher than normal cars, before the spark plugs ignite the fuel, so using crappy low octane fuels will cause the fuel to combust under compression instead of sparking, causing knocking. higher octane fuels can be compressed more before ignition, so benefit higher compression engines, tricky concept lol, but had a module on it at A level :p

So would it be good idea to start using it in my saxo or will normal unleaded be good enough

use whats mapped to your car normal unleaded higher octane fuels are only for cars mapped for it like tunned cars. wont do any damage to your car but theres no point just cost more.

I dont think using super unleaded will make a difference in the saxo as the ECU wont take advantage of it

won't make a difference to a N/A car as opposed to a turbocharged car so I would stick to standard petty and save you're wedge lol

the only thing that it could do is clean up your fuel system a little bit due to addatives etc, your fine to switch between the two but to be honest mate don't waste your money

i use v power to treat the engine, also add redex each time!! engine hearts me! :) nothing wrong with putting it in, just dont expect anything extra!

It can be bad for small engines, fooked up a mates 1.4 corsa, although that may not be such a bad thing ;)
And redex is wank too, messes your injectors up, makes them tap and disintegrate internally over time
I used to put Shell V-power fuel in my first car, it ran smoother than on Asda stuff i used to put when i first got it.

my clio says on the filler cap to only use 98 octaine, but always use normal, did't see any differances, until fitter bmc, exhaust and decat, then was noticably smoother on 98

only used it twice, and since then, i have noticed a definate difference in fuel consumption. car must have been preeety dirty lol

sums it up tbh
put a tank of higher octane stuff every month or so and itll help clean the injectors etc
other than that.. no differenece exept cost

I use mine religiously on V-power... one I get V-power points, two the engine is much smoother on it, power is better (i hope), and my mileage is bloody excellent.

I find I get more MPG with super, so I stick to it. So far managed 300 miles and got 1/4 of a tank left, thats a mixture of driving sensibly, and more spiritedly, who says 1.6's aren't economical.
