View Full Version : Pretty sure my car is buggered

I bought my VTR (2nd one i've owned) and i love it! way better than my old Y-reg one, faster, cleaner etc. Was driving it home after buying it £2k down the line... and it was pulling to the right so i thought meh only tracking can get sorted for £40 easy.

Them My abs light came on so took it into the garage and said can you sort the tracking. turns out, not the tracking.

So 2 days carless and 2 days of labour charges later i had all new discs and pads (they were surprised it was even stopping) a new ABS sensor at £60 and a bunch of puzzled mechanics trying to figure out why my car was pulling to the right. So they fixed it a mini bit by swapping my alloys over and then it pulled to the left! Awesome.

Basically the outcome is that the left front wheel sits at least 2cm further back than the right side, my guess is that its taken a smack from the underneath. Anyone know if this is fixable? i can tell you im never going back to that bloody garage again if they didnt know whats wrong!!

Hi mate, the obvious thing would be the lower suspension arm(wishbone) they bend easily but the mechanics should have noticed that unless they were just banjo players who had raped and killed the real mechanics and were just taking everyones dosh who pulled in. Maybe you was just Lucky to walk away alive.

if thet swapped the wheels round then started to pull the other way i would say wheels maybe tyres

it must be the wheel because when they swapped the wheel it pulled the other way, if it was the chassis it would still pull to the right.

Buckled wheel imo.

Easy fix..

Thats what i thought about the wheel, i'm gettign new alloys soon so i guess I'll find out... make a lovely squeeling noise as well which i solve by turning the kusic up and pretending not to hear it!

And Rez, it did take them 2 days to sort out my brakes and an ABS sensor so you're probably right, but if they're banjo hillbillys, from what i've seen in deliverence I'm not their type :)

i had a very similar problem with my vtr. The steering used to pull to one side, quite a few degree too. changed my 2 front tyres and get the tracking checked a t the same time and theytold me the tracking was spot on. drove away at the steering was strangely straighter!

Might be worth swapping rear wheels with the front to see if that makes a difference

Well i dont know what they did but they swapped some wheels around, it wobbles alot when im doing around 60 - 70mph so i put my foot down and it settles down by about 80 :)

oh no sorry i wasnt being rude i was just saying that mine came on :) because i have no clue what they mean so I looked in the book for the light that popped up! So unless i'm the biggest plonker ever and cant read the manual properly and let them rip me off for a good couple of quid i'm pretty sure it was the abs light...

ok just read it was an optional extra so maybe the guy who had it first decided to have it?

saxojamesb
19th May 2009, 16:07
lol ok mate what side does it pull to

sminotVTR
19th May 2009, 16:09
it staryed pulling to the right, with standard vtr alloys. I then bought my new alloys and it still went to the right. Took it to the garage and they did some stuff and now it goes to the left!

ABS is an added extra on a VTR as part of the security pack! So VTR's can have it from new if the original owner opted for it, it was exspensive though so not many about!

get a geometry check done bout 40£ will save you paying labour costs for people scratching there arse that way you know if the a wishbone etc is bent they mite have just altered the tracking abit id be sure the front is back i bent my rear axle and the sterring wheel just made up for it and kept it going in a st8 line (crabbing).

Are both front tyres the same brand and tread pattern? This can cause the car to pull to one side or the other.
