Engine NOISES??????

when i leave the car on idle it sounds sweet as a nut but if i accelerate hard it starts making a noise that kinda sounds like someones tapping inside the engine with a hammer and it gets faster and louder on acceleration when i stop it still makes the same noise untill i rev it hard again then it stops. anyone have any ideas what this could be the oil level is fine btw. im starting to think the engines gonna have to come out. how do i know if its big end, piston slap etc???

You said like someone is TAPPING inside the engine, maybe its your tappets mate. Sure i read somewhere on here that a garage wont charge much to adjust them.

check your exhaust. the downpipe / center pipe join sometimes rattles underload. changed the ring and mine stopped

its not tappets they sound as they should it seems to be coming from lower down on the engine towards bottom end at the rear its doin my nut in i really dont wanna remove engine if i dont have to but im worying its the big end bearing or main bearings but i thought it would be a fairly constant knock/bang either under load or on idle but as i say it comes when i rev hard and dissapears if i rev hard again sounds sweet as on idle.

Get someone to rev the car and feel around the manifold gasket area, can make really nasty noises if this has gone...
Failing that have a listen down by the sump area may be able to hear if its the bottom end knocking.........

I take it from what you said it is coming from the bottom area of then engine?

yeah it is the bottom mate, im still gonna have to have the engine out if its bottom end aint i??? would it be easier to just shove a recon engine in?
