Had to make something out of something and i went for the recycling theme aimed at using car parts.
Started off like this, bought a Jeep Cherokee wheel from the scrappy
Its 17 inches in diameter, (yes its correct Nij ;) lol)

Clean and scrub, few coats of primer
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm254/Saamuell/DSC00810-1.jpg
Covered the bottom half with white and sprayed the spokes gold just for a laugh and decided it looked quite good.

Looks alright, shame about the bolts on the top of the table though, too bad you couldnt have used industrial glue to fasten the nuts to the bottom of the table once they were screwed on abit.

good idea but could be finished off, ie the bolts could of been better ergonomically designed, (dome headed bolts or recessed bolts and chrome tubing surrounding the bolts. but good still. Just had my last DT A level lesson every. *cry* .
and H&S would have a field day on that base hmm trip hazard. also could do some clear acrylic ontop of the gold section for another shelf but still keeping the aesthetic quality.

i agree with the homo from the coast, the bolts on the top look a bit out of place
also, how easy is it to move about? looks pretty heavy

hey you big gay :homme:
almost could do with some castors being bolted onto a mounting plate on the inside edge of the wheel then you can move it about easily but also disguising the casters.

Thanks, yes the only size i could get which would fit right where those fully threaded ones. I had some with a smoothed end but where not long enough so had to use these...

Will have a look around for some better bolts, thanks :)
Well it seems okay for walking around, no trip hazards... i dont think :panic:
Thanks

The alloy weights 8lbs, the top is made from plywood (doesn't weight anything) and the threads probably weight 2kg altogether, i had to use the car alot when taking it home and back to school sometimes
Same weight as an average table i suppose...

Dont think tripping over it is a hazard tbh. could say that about normal little tables...
Been a joiner though, i would of screwed the nuts on abit, marked them the bottom of the table, then drilled holes slightly smaller than the nuts, and put abit of wood ontop of the table top, and hammered it so the nuts sat inside the holes under the table, then you get a smooth top :)

Good question... it could have took me a week but from buying the wheel to the finished product, 6 weeks :y:

you could have made something of the bolts, like maybe got a disc brake, and bolted that down ontop of the wood, just as then the bolts coming through would have a purpose, and it would continue the recycling theme.

I might actually do that when i sell it on.
Thanks for the idea
Would of been much better with a glass top. That would look smart, or a piece of metal or something. Reminds me of this:

Miles better than my D+T project for A2 though. Mine was a 'high quality' speaker system, although it turned out crap lol.

The plan at first was to use a piece of glass but i couldn't one made in time and the cost was far too much.

Agreed on this, they look sweet. I actually might make one now lol. Wouldn't be too much at all really - glass would be the most expensive.

Yes I did, all 3 in fact.
Girl in my class managed full marks, without even sitting the final exam she had achieved an A.

thats acutally smart, i can see design has gone into that, i just cant see how you can call bolting a wheel to a bit of wood badly "design"
