Hello boys and girls

I am thinking about a future in the army.

4-5 Months ago i got to Selection stage for the infranty but i left it because i wasnt 100% sure if infranty was what i really wanted to do.

Some one told me, If your going to join the forces. Be a officer. Get treated far much better and alot better pay.

Anyway.

To be a officer i need 2 A levels and also C's GCSE in English Maths & Science.

Anyway.

I rang my local ARO asking if there was a defence college i could attend. I could have gone to Welbeck thats a defence college if i had signed up in april :( Which is a bit of a bummer. Anyway.

They told me my options are either.

A. Go to civi college and study for a resit in English, and Gain 2 A Levels in anything i wanted. As long as there A levels.
B. Join as a regular in anyjob. And show what it takes, and get promoted by commanding officer. Now that could be years?

Were as i can get A levels in a year at civi.

Any one actually been a officer on here?

OR have a family memeber on here that is one?

Advice please guys! Thanks

do something in the army where you come out wiht a trade mate, then you are in good stead for gettin a job when you come out in to civilan life, i joined the reme 6 years ago but was discharged on medical grounds, but was set to get a hell of lot out of it, fully qualifed mechanic, get put through all your vehcile tests hgv, psv and even car if you havent already got it.

just think long and hard about what you want out of it mate and what will benefit you in the long run.

good luck with whatever you choose to do

Mate, I almost did the same as yourself....

I got in to the Royal Navy to be a Pilot passed my entry exams an took my flight test. Passed all!

Then i looked at Civil Avation BIG BUCKS for the right job...im just finishing my fixed wing then moving onto Helos as they are amazing to fly awesome views...

Kinda wish i went into the Navy now thoue as they would have paid for it all instead of me paying for it!

If you can get in to fly do it! It is an awesome life style ( I have been in a Apache longbow and my god there the tits)

Anyway best of luck!

im in the army myself, alright its just the T.A. but i still know the layout and how things work.

dont join as a private/sapper/grenadier etc to get promoted. it wont happen for about 2-4 years for a lance corporal. so if you wanna go into the army as a officer go to the defence college. but as better treated as you get, you get HATED by the lower rankers and get mocked ALL the time. so i suggest just joining at the bottom of the food chain.

as regards to what cap-badge, im in the royal engineers. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Engineers) if you read about us we're the next best thing to the infantry but you still learn a trade with us like plumbing, electrics, building etc. reme (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Electrical_and_Mechanical_Engineers) are good to get into depending on what job you want.

if however you have your heart set on infantry, the PWRR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PWRR), fusiliers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusiliers), the rifles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rifles), irish guards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Royal_Irish_Regiment_(27th_(Inniskilling)_83rd _and_87th_and_Ulster_Defence_Regiment)) are ALL defiantly worth a look. but again, it all depends on what role your looking at doing.

the officer training is REALLY tough tho, you have to run a mile and a half anyway in 10minutes 30seconds or less, but officers have to do it allot quicker (not sure on their time). and infantry have to do it at around 9minutes.

im all trained up now, so if you wanna know anything, let me know and ill happily answer...
