View Full Version : spam heaven?

no the title does not mean a place for you to spam
anyway:
seems saxP has been over-ridden with spammers lately, several people who are just intent on posting utter crap 24/7. and its bringing the site downhill imo.
i know there was the older generation of spammers who all got banned, which although i got on with some of them, i can see the reasons why it was done
this "new generation" of spammers seem to be doing it just to look cool on the forum, when in actual fact, they look pathetic and immature.. none of them post in the tech sections, and never do they post anything useful in gen chat.
no need to name people, as everyone knows the main spammers
this isnt just a rant, but a point of discussion
and mods, sorry if it should have been put in suggestions / improvments
and yes i know someone will just say ibtl

exactly, occasionally those type of comments are funny, (or used to be) when posted by "funny" members
but it seems every 2 seconds, one of the latest spam whores says it thinking theyre cool and funny...

I dont even find ibtl funny tbh.
Saxp is VERY tight on spamming and still is today.
One ofrum i used to be on had over 80k members and most online was 998 at one time, the forum was amazing, was so laid back. Not saying it should be allowed but rasism was fine as it was a forum with many mixed races, manily urban races and poeple didnt care less. It wasnt even called spam it was just the way of the forum. The general chat forum was just for spamming really. Poeple used to just quote poeple and not write anything, and it was such a laugh. Saxp is hard on spammers as it is! Though ive got used to the tightness now.

i agree with ashleyp fully it is becoming a joke tbh,

luckily theres always decent threads in the tech sections
in gen chat ive only seen a few threads that have a real discussion behind them, and even then the spammers try to post crap..
not having a go at the mod team either btw, obv they cant control it 100% of the time, just seems as if the "trend" is to be a spammer
brings down the site in many ways, as there are loads of genuine saxo enthusiasts, then you get those who just sit on here 24/7 posting nothing saxo related.. not saying "no spam" its funny once in a while, just got a bit out of control IMO
lucky the rep system isnt here tbh, as we all know the people would abuse it severly (in terms of constant red blobbing noobs) but then on the other hand, the spammers would have been put down by the ammount of neg rep they recieved maybe.. anyway, not a discussion about bring back rep
so lets get back on topic :)

i think that some of the spamming is probably due to the people needing 100 posts to see certain sections of the site.
so they see general chat and get excited, time to talk about shit lol
Mochachino
22nd May 2009, 07:33
Its been mentioned so many times, and i dont know why they dont just do it, and stop post counts in general chat!
Its a saxo site not a general chat site, so post counts in general chat are not needed as much.
If a noob comes on saxp wanting advice, they would have looked at rep, thats not there anymore, now we got thanks, but i dont even know how to view that and it isnt readily available on the user bit at the side of each post how rep used to be, so theyre gonna look at post counts (or at least i would). Some one could rake up 6k posts inn general chat then give one peice of advice in the tech sections and the noob will beliove it and it will be false info. Where as if post counts only exsisted in tech sections its obvious someone knows what theyre talking about or they have a lot of questions about their saxo that keeps breaking!

whos bothered, at end of the day its not a race to who gets the most posts and people know this.
its just witty banter between all the members, people enjoy it when a thread goes off topic and eveyone just chats.lets you get to know what members are like, yeah its daft and pointless when "ibtl" comments get put on but thats just how it is,if it was really a big problem im sure simo would do somthing about it.
this is what general chats all about!
you have the jeremy kyle issues that come up and i know some of you guys say ya dont like those topics but really everyone does,i mean look at the other day with " saggy tits" thread that was brilliant some class comments from that tread,
and just mostley members wanting our opnions on there plans or whats going on with there life and they get them from a wide viriety of people. including the little chavy 17 year olds who think they are ten men but then they just get slated for it and you dont here from them.
anyway i hope some of you feel they way i do on this subject. and would like to hear if you do

Mate no offence but you've been a member only a few months, when I first joined the sites Gen Chat was far different, there were far less stupid threads being made for no reason. Seems that recently its begun the norm to post utter crap all over the site. People like Simo and the other mods don't need the hassle of having to clear up all the crap all the time. Seems impossible for people to just have a normal convo without it becoming an issue
Bottlenob.
Perfect example.
I mainly have a browse in Media section because you get sense talked in there instead of spam, and im up on technology, in Gen-Chat its full of spammage, irelevant topics & pointless threads..I agree Iv'e been guilty of spam once or twice but there are some members on here naming no names..(Bottlenob) who just give nothing to the site

The amount of spam is simply taking the pi$$. This needs to get sorted. Ive said it before and I'll say it again, I'd prefer to close the site down rather than see it spiral into an out of control spam-pit.

How about, people MUST post in the newbies section before they can even post/ view the rest of the forum.
There should be a criteria in the newbies section. Must state your name, where you live, forum expierences (links) and a short description why you've signed up. (Name and where you live can be traced by the IP)
Then the mods can tell by his spelling and grammar if his a typical chav who "Wntz 2 bolt a turbo 2 his 1.1" and then mods can approve or disaprove (Anomaously (sp)) weather his hear for spam or for general help? Perhaps have 3 mods to approve?

They just need to make it clear that spamming isn't tolerated, and take action on the idiots who keep doing it, that or make a section dedicated to spam for all the idiots. (Misc anyone?)

Unfortunately one of the cons at the moment is the mass influx of retards that are incapable of reading the rules and abusing the system.

Tbh, I've not noticed a change but dont just whore it up in General Chat and never have, hence my post count in 6 years.
Join date and post count is always an indicator for me.
But are there not what people would consider spammers in here?
I'm not thinking of anyone in particular but can you really make 2,000 - 6,000 or 12,000 useful non-spam posts in 1 or 2 years?
My point with that is it is coming across a bit like the pot calling the kettle black.

but i do kinda agree cause we need to get rid of the chavvy saxo image.
i still love saxp though
I came on here for advice ages and ages ago due to me driving without a prov licence and got 100% slated for it..Pages full of "your a tit" and "grow up" and this was from some of the more...established members of this site..
Yes, you know who you are.
I have to admit to one thing though if im totally honest..
This site is mighty strict
its quite strict like down to the users, everyones on the same band wagon (if thats the phrase)
if you say you were a bit over the speed limit you get abuse.
if you have lexus lights or racing stripes you get abuse.
if you say you raced someone off some lights you get abuse.
but i do kinda agree cause we need to get rid of the chavvy saxo image.

This site is not strict, PGAC is a strict place lol. Spend some time on there (if you can) then come back here and it'll feel like a breath of fresh air.
If you have chavy mods I think you get abuse on most sites. They dont get defended as the only other people with those mods are doing a burnout in McDs carpark ;)
But I think that there are people on here who have grown up and dont want to be associated with stupid driving and the bad rep saxos had/have. If people talk about it on here it makes the forum look bad.
Ryan - You drove without even a provisional? That is stupid mate.
I think a lot of people who do things by the book and pay their insurance premiums every year dont appreciated a portion of that going in to the fund for uninsured drivers. So if you dont even have a licence then the chances are you wont have insurance either.
