View Full Version : Survival Sunday - Who is going down?

Tony
23rd May 2009, 13:20
A poll would have been interesting but I couldnt be bothered to set it up will all of the possibilities.

So based on the fact that WBA are down, what are your other 2 teams to join them?

For me I think Utd will beat Hull and Newcastle will get jammy a draw at Villa.

Which means my pick to go down is:

Hull
Middlesbrough

I really don't want Newcastle to go down, but as a Man Utd fan and with the lot of them moaning about the side we sending out to Hull, i couldn't care who went down! :y:

Boro are down anyway. They need at least a 5-0 win. That just isnt going to happen. When did they last score 5 in a single match anyway?

Be nice to see the Toon in the Championship next season tbh.

Yes, Hull had a flier at the start but they are just not Prem standard.

Sunderland will be OK.

So as it stands imo.

Mieran
23rd May 2009, 18:44
For me a perfect scenario would be:

Newcastle win
Hull win
Sunderland lose

Mackems and smoggies get relegated :D

Westham don't have anything to play for though.. but still very unlikey to lose 5-0.

Man U could play the U15s against Hull and still win.

For me, Hull are down, worst side in the Prem.

I reckon Newcastle will get a point at Villa.

I WANT boro and newcastle to go down

Although it never seems to be the way, no doubt newcastle will scab some kind of victory and hull will lose sending hull down along with boro.

Love seeing the bigger teams fight for survival, amazing the difference a few years makes, although in fairness they always have thought they were better then they actually are.

If they go down i fear they will struggle to get back up, theres some top quality sides in the championship who are proving themselves in the premiership, or at least holding there own.

As a peterborough united fan, (who were promted to champ'ship) i would love newcastle and middlesborough to go down so i can watch them play the POSH.

immense
23rd May 2009, 21:11
I reckon it'll stay as it is, with Boro and Newcastle both losing - Villa want 5th and I reckon that'll drive them on.

And as stated on the BBC website, Newcastle going down wouldn't be such a bad thing, it'd give them a chance to reorganise from the top down because they're a mess at the moment.

Boro don't need to score 5 goals because if newcastle lose and then if Hull lose by say 3 goals then they only need 2 goals to bring the goal difference level.

I think Boro and Newcastle are going down. Hull to stay up, I'm a United fan but I think they deserve to be in the Prem for another year after the great start to the season they had.

23rd May 2009, 21:42
Bugger that, wouldn't want Michael Owen at United, he's well past his best. I think Ronaldo and Tevez will both be at United next season.

Be good to see Owen Hargreaves back next season.

Why would united want owen? whats the point in spending a load of cash for someone who can manage 2 games and about as many goals a season??

Hope your right mate, but if we win the Champions League again im not so sure. Ronaldos' acheived everthing he can in English football and wants a 'new challenge' at Madrid.

Hope we get them next year in Europe, let him know what he's missing out on :boxing:

dynebaruk
23rd May 2009, 22:12
Wouldn't be that bothered really if Ronaldo left, I know he scores a lot of goals but so did Ruud Van Nistelrooy and look what we've achieved since he left.

I'd be quite happy to get £60mil+ or whatever the papers say and get Ribery instead, which could be on the cards given that Bayern Munich aren't doing too good and he's fed up apparently. If Tevez left, which I hope he doesn't, I'd love to see David Villa come although he's a totally different type of striker. Again it's a move that could be on given Valencia's cash problems. I'd rather have Tevez in the team than Ronaldo.

Tony

boro,,

What are you trying to say with your post?

Bugger that, wouldn't want Michael Owen at United, he's well past his best. I think Ronaldo and Tevez will both be at United next season.

Be good to see Owen Hargreaves back next season.

I'd put money on Tevez not being at Man U next season. A club with £200m+ debts wont pay £25m (or whatever it is) for a squad player when Sir Alex has said that Wellbeck will be in the England team for Germany (if we qualify).

There is no room for negotiation either as Man City will happily pay the asking price and it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up there.

Tony
23rd May 2009, 22:21
I have heard that Ribery will go to Real Madrid and Villa to Barca.

I'd expect a quiet-ish summer at Man U, apart from maybe Vidic going to Barca if the money is right.

BenjaM

He's a natural goalscorer!

dynebaruk
23rd May 2009, 22:23
Can't see Fergie selling Vidic, he's been immense and we'd be lost without him.

Welbeck isn't good enough to be playing regular first team football yet, if we don't keep Tevez then someone else will have to be brought in. Would be foolish to only have Rooney and Berbatov as recognised first team strikers in the team.

He's a natural goalscorer!

he WAS a natural goalscorer. Like Ryan said, he's always injured.

Vidic will NOT leave United, and you're right we'd be lost without him. But most teams wouldn't complain with only having Rooney and Berbatov, and with players like Anderson and Macheda there's a lot of talent coming through, so Fergie doesn't need to be doing much scouting :D

Tony
23rd May 2009, 22:29
Honestly mate, expect to see more of Wellbeck and Marcheda (sp?) next season.

Apparently Vidic's wife doesn't like England so again dont be surprised.

As for Owen, natural goal scorer or not he is past it. He seems to have lost what made him great, his all round speed. Like the Brazilian Ronaldo, he never came back right after a knee injury.

As for the other Ronaldo, that deal depends on whether Madrid get Kaka or not apparently. It also depends on if Madrid can get out of the pre-contract without a penalty payment.

But I have heard that Ronaldo has trademarked the 'R9' iirc in Spain so expect him out there one day.

BenjaM
23rd May 2009, 22:31
he WAS a natural goalscorer. Like Ryan said, he's always injured.

The whole point of being named a Natural goalscorer means they never lose it. And him having injuries doesn't make him a 'bad' player, just got kinda unlucky.

Why did you mention Anderson after mentioning strikers btw Ben?

Isn't he like the only outfield player not to score for you this season and hasn't ever scored for Man U?

dynebaruk
23rd May 2009, 22:36
Yeah Anderson hasn't scored for United so don't expect him to be getting the golden boot any time soon.

Macheda and Welbeck aren't good enough to be relied on week in week out yet, it's Tevez or a new transfer for United I reckon. I think United will keep him.. experience, work rate, already a part of the club and the fans love him.

BenjaM
23rd May 2009, 22:59

I didnt class him as a striker, just in the same sentence :D Showing that United have a lot of talent on the way! Anderson being a GREAT example.

He works hard and still can't beleive he hasn't scored, he's like Carrick 'works behind the ranks' and you'd miss him in the squad if he wasn't there.

Tony
23rd May 2009, 23:33
I dont rate Anderson at all but he can still come good.

dynebaruk - You seem oblivious to the points that I am trying to make but I will make them one last time and then I will leave it until Sept 1st when the transfer deadline has passed. Tevez will not stay, you probably will not replace him, Wellbeck and Marcheda will be used as squad bench players much like Tevez this season.

I dont doubt Sir Alex, he rated Giggs, Scholes, Butt, Nevilles and Beckham enough to come through and was right so we'll have to see with these other 2 young strikers.

dynebaruk
24th May 2009, 10:43
haha I'm not oblivious to the points you're making, it's just that I don't think Fergie will get rid of Tevez and not buy anyone else. Just my opinion.

Sorry to burst your bubble but united would never sign owen lol

Besides he is strongly linked with everton, he even supported them as a child

Personally I think he is well past is best, his whole game was focused on lightening pace with a great finish, take away the pace and you haven't got yourself a 20 goals a season striker, no way.

I was only saying there is a SLIGHT chance he could come to Old Trafford. Not a big deal if he doesn't, just use the £70 mill and scoop David Villa ;)

Tony
24th May 2009, 11:23
I dont see why Everton would sign Owen. They have done pretty well without Yakubu and Saha for most of the season and should have them back next year so wouldn't need Owen.

With regards to who Owen supported as a child, I think that a lot of the Scouse Liverpool players over the years have supported Everton so I dont think that will make much difference.

I can much more likely see him going somewhere like Villa, City or even Celtic. Villa have the two big strikers to compliment his smaller stature and it'd provide cover for Agbonlahor who has tired badly this season. Plus Villa, or O'Neill, seems to like English players.

Final predictions before K-O?

dynebaruk
24th May 2009, 14:50
My prediction is Newcastle and Boro to go down.

As far as scores go the only one that's going to matter is

Hull 2 Man United 1

And I'm a United fan lol

In case anyone hasn't seen the team yet:

Man Utd: Kuszczak, Rafael Da Silva, Neville, Brown, De Laet, Nani, Fletcher, Gibson, Welbeck, Martin, Macheda

Subs: Amos, Tosic, Possebon, Eckersley, Corry Evans, Drinkwater, James

Bring on Wednesday :)

fucking bastards deserved to go down after that. Awful awful awful, I will stand by my team no matter how shite they are tho.

Ryan got it spot on they need to go down, knock them down a few pegs get the restructuring they need doing done I dont see them coming back up right away, typical of the bastards aswell results going their way and still mess up

Tony
24th May 2009, 17:05
Keeping Shay until the end of the season would have kept you up imo.

Well that is that, NUFC down. Hull safe.

You (NUFC) have a lot of foreign players who aren't experienced in the Premier League.

Plus I dont understand why you never seemed to play Duff and Gutierrez on each wing and get crosses in to Viduka, Ameobi, Carroll and even Owen.

I would have played Carroll more.

No offence to all the toon army but its prob the best result they could have hoped for ... in the long term. Gives shearer a chance to cut his teeth in management if he decides to stay. But i can see a fire sale at St James Park starting very soon ... thats if none of the players have a religation clause in the contract

Can c a massive cull of players there, even with the payment from the premirship they wont be able to keep up the wage demands of owen etc
they have alot of rebuilding to do and the best way forward is via new young english talent!

Should always stay supporting your team, even if they go down. That said my team (the mighty Luton) will probably get to the the top flight before Newcastle.

No performance clauses in the contracts with regard to them going down. You have 15 players on north of £50k a week. Have fun with that.

You need to get rid of most of the team. You need to get a solid team together capable of grinding out results not making the idiotic mistakes of this year and get yourself a superb home record.

On the flip side they are 3/1 to go back up according to Blue Square on Setanta at the moment. Though the bloke (from Blue Square!) saying that is saying it's not one to bett on!
