View Full Version : How can we get saxo prices up?

I think it was on the Lancer Register that most of the users decided to price their cars high when selling to try and keep the value up.

106 owners price their GTi's and quiksilver's very high compared to saxos and it seems to work because people pay £2500+ for 1997-98 cars. A 2002-03 vts would struggle to make that.

Could it work if we all whack a grand onto our asking price and just hold out?

Nope

IMO. GTi = Plush!
VTS = Poor Mans Car (Sorry i said that on a Saxo site)

Its a buyers market and always will be on saxos!

Recession and you want to put an extra grand on the value, you won't sell it, especially with people claiming in on the scrapage scheme.

Its hard enough to sell a saxo atm as it is!

I chose my Saxo over a 106 and still would. Never been much of a fan.

TBH i wouldnt pay 2 grand for a 98 MK1 VTR in white..i paid £650 for my saxo and i cant see me asking £1650 for it if i was to sell it...

people will always sell out cheaper, cos they want to sell a car, especially in the recession....

its a good idea, but in the current economic climate, its unlikely.

Like whats been said:

Recession etc = Epic Price Fall

I'm affraid cars arn't worth anything 2nd hand any more. As soon as they leave the show room they have lost a few grand.

If the recession is that bad, why are 106's still selling for stupid money?

That has been the case for years and is a bit of a generalised statement.

It will most certainly depress a lot of car markets further, but for example try and find a few Escort Cosworths for sale under £10k.

Cars did this ALONG time before the recession. Only a few models ever do this, such as when the new mini came out, where demand outweighed production, which meant people were willing to pay more than new prices for ued cars just so they could look like someone from toni and guy :D.

The problem with the car market isnt generally selling as such, its more people are less willing to invest a large sum of money in a newer car incase they loose their job etc it seems. Most people are hanging onto their cars more, or are downgrading to smaller more economical cars where less money i invested in them. Its just one big circle of mess tbh.

???? so why would a poor man buy that had the choice of 2 identical cars, buy the 1 that is more to insure?

williamsvts

tbh, i think people are idiots for paying the prices 106s are going for, especially rallyes.

GTi More to Insure?

Exact same spec? Perhaps its built better or something? (<- I don't know about that)

Tbh. I'd have a GTi. IMO they look a bit smarter. Supposed to have a thicker Arb or something. Not really payed much attention but just think they look more smarter imo.

I can understand the logic for high prices on rallyes, they only made a few and they are quite rare. The prices they go for is just silly though.

GTI's and Quiksilvers hack me off the most. I dont understand why people pay so much more for them when a saxo has just as much to offer but looks slightly different for nearly half the price? Spend £200 on a set of leathers for a vts and you have a car that equaly as speced as a GTi.

Round my way there is a load of GTi's and only a very small amount of vts's. Why pay more for something more common with more miles and 3-4 years older?

Wish we could do something about it

williamsvts

lol, no. he said a vts is the poor mans gti, but a vts is group 14 ins and the gti is group 13.

we can write more saxos off the road and then sell them at extortionate prices :)

theres currently quite a few GTis on piston heads for sale at a grand most VTS atm would say an average price is £1800

saying a vts is a cheap mans car over a GTI is just stupid might aswel say a GTI is a cheap mans car over a Raylle....

106's are overpriced and it is silly yes. VTS/ VTRS have hit the slope where their heading for there lowest point. Much like 205's did maybe 8-9 years ago. The car may gain money back in time if it has a cult status and following like a williams or 205 does.

The problem with VTS/ VTR's will always be an image one, this is down to the marketing policies of citroen when they sold it with free insurance. Thus incuring a target market who dont exactly do well in promoting any brand value bar ....rap it round a lampost.

In ten years or so a car such as concourse180 or fergs will be worth a few bob to someone as it reminds them of their youth.

In terms of gti - vts though thats the whole reason why there is a price difference - branding.

A peugeot gti was once a very special thing from a line of very special little cars. VTS' do not have this benefit and so will never really be able to achieve that cult status even though as we all know they represent far higher value for money.

I sold a 1998 vtr for £4500 once.

Then again I did buy a 2000 vts for the same.

You guys keep crashing yours and weighing them in and I'll keep mine nice and shiny for a few years. That should do the trick ;)

i bought my saxo over the 106 on styling, your shitness disturbs me

also you have to remember there are other cars out there, like the 172, which would be the same price as a vts if you bump up the price.

the 106 people will have to get off their high horse soon.

Break them for spares??? May sound silly but some people have spent a lot of money on their cars and probably wont get half of it back so selling all the parts may make more money, i dunno just an idea

+1 ...

Everytime I see a 'Crashed my VTS' thread mine gains that little extra bit of value.

Keep mine mint for a few more years and it can't surely lose anymore value ;)

I'll buy you for 5K ;) child labour, ftw
