saxo windows have a standard tint. you can go a little darker but not much. if the traffic police check with the light meter then you can be get a fine n told to remove them.

as of last year its illegal to tint front windows. there was a major clamp down in stoke a few months back where the police were stopping people, scratcing the front tints so they had to be removed

It is NOT Illegal to have tints on Driver and passanger windows alsong as they let through 70% of light, any less than that and thhey are illegal, but you can have tinting on the windows.

Mod please close this thread!

oh right............ why therefore is it that lots of people that do tinting will not tint front windows anymore???? Ive phoned several companies around the stoke area and they say no.

some companies dont like to do it as it does restrict your side vision, mainly at night, also if a company does tint your windows whats stopping you from saying you want teh tints to be 40 or 50 %, i've been pulled over many times and had nothing said about my front tintings, as that are only 30% tinted.

70% of light has to be able to shine through the front 2 windows. The 'light smoke' tint (lightest grade available) allows 69% of light to shine through, so is therefore illegal.
We will still tint front windows, but get people to sign a disclaimer to say that they have been told its illegal.
Also, most cars from mid 90's onwards came with a slight 'tint' as standard. Basically a sun protecting tint that you can't really notice. But as soon as you add the lightest available tint ontop of that, it will make it darker still. So basically, it is illegal to tint your front side windows. Not a tested part of the MOT though.

Not really looked in to it but as far as I am aware its actually illegal to use any sort of tinted film on your front windows. If you look carefully you will see that your windows are E marked. As part of the E mark for the front and front side windows is there optical characteristics. So altering this in any way even if within legal tolerances would still render the windows illegal as it was altered after it was approved.

Its something akin to getting a road tyre and then cutting more tread in to it. The tyre was road legal to start with. Now you have altered it the original markings no longer apply and so the tyre is now illegal even if its still got a legal amount of tread on.

there was a video about this. it is ilegal to get your front windows darker than 30% tint. normal front windows already have a tint quite close to this so there is no point in tinting them. the back windows though can be as dark as you want.

if this is correct that you cant have tints on the front why do merc avantgardes which is basically the top o the range ones have blue tints on them n if they were so illegal i dont think mercedes who happen to make one o the most prestiges car manufacturers in the world would be doing this
