Right here's the deal!
Really struggling to fins alloys in 16s at the moment!
So should i risk going for 17s? The car is lowered 50mm all round so i'm guessing arch work needs doing but what? Also is it worth going for 17s? I hear that people get lots of problems with drivetrain wear, suspension problems, etc.
Or should i get 16s? If so what design?!?!?!?!?
Help!!!!!

would you have to do any work to the arches?

I'm worried by the amount of work and the potential mechanical problems of running 17s everyday smileys/sad.gif

wait til the car is done then see, if you have already paid for the kit and its costing a bit, could cost more to get 17s, your choice isnt it

In the haynes manual they have a saxo lowered on 17's and it shows every stage of arch work they needed to do and how they did it, with pics. (not sure how much it was lowered though)

I got 17" on mine but then again its yet be lowered and it already has the kit on, If your getting a kit put on then go for the 17's. Kitted cars with small rims just look ermm (weird) smileys/smiley17.gif

Yes arch work will be needed nut with the dimma kit on ur car it will be well worth it!
As for problems driving everyday there are no real problems, over a long period of time the drive shafts mitebend a bit lol and mite need to be replaced.
If u have the cash go for a full round shock kit

So am i right in thinking the problems which i have heard of are an urban myth or are they just very rare?

Anyone experienced a Saxo with 17s with a fair amount of lowering? I want to know if the issues about mechanical wearing is that big to scare me off of 17s?

go with your gut instinct bud smileys/smiley17.gif
with a kitted car, id go for 17" alloys, a nice quality set smileys/smiley2.gif
im sure the body shop could sort your arches out for you while the cars in there???? smileys/smiley2.gif
the front just needed the liners taken out (i think) and the rear needs the liners taken out and a bit of grinding work to the rear bumper brackets.
i did all the work myself to the arches to fit my 16" alloys and its fine now.
oh yeah, make sure you get the correct offset too smileys/smiley2.gif smileys/smiley17.gif smileys/smiley4.gif

it all depends on how u drive the car. putting 17's wont bother anything if you drive normally. just dont rag it because things will break (but thats just common sense). theres a guy on saxosportsclub thats gone from 17s to now 19's, and never had a problem.

Depends what look your going for....if euro ish go smaller like 15's or if its purely for looks go for 17's. I'd compromise and go for 16's. O.Z do some nice wheels in 16's.
Try gsmotorsport or 2modified as I'm sure they'll help you. smileys/smiley2.gif

Go for 17's if you don't you'll only wonder, what if.....
Personally I run 16's with 205 x 40 Khumo tyres with no probs (some minor rubbing on full lock left due to the width). I followed the Max Haynes instructions so it must be easy! smileys/smiley4.gif

i say no, i have 17's on at the mo, it looks good but the car cant handle them, but i do drive hard. I have done 1 gearbox and 2 clutchs in the last year and a half. i am going back to 15's now.

My 17"s and -60mm drop love each other, so does galeVTR's. You do need to do some work to the arches but you can easily get full lock and no rubbing for a little amount of work.

I used to have 17" on my saxo, with a 60mm drop and it was fine, the arch work is very easy and you dont have to do that much work! i would go 17's if i was you tyres are the same if not cheaper than 16's as well. If you dont go for 17's you will regret it i think, but if you do have problems then you can always sell them and buy 15's or 16's but i dont think you will.

Like said buddy, if you have a kitted saxo go for at least 17"s IMO. It isnt that much work and it is easily done. You dont loose a noticable amount of handling and it looks miles better.
