I thought it was better to use microfibre applicators pads, as opposed to using sponge.
Same as wash mitts is better to use microfibre/lambswool over sponge?

I use the sponge applicator pads as by the time you're applying polish you've already washed the car throughoughly with a wash mit, and hosed it a couple of times and then dried it so should be clear of any particles/dust

X2 Houston.

I can see why you said that SaxoAL, but..
The sponge/microfibre theory is based on the car having contaminates on the paintwork. If its been cleaned properly, 2 bucket method + clay bar + further cleaning / rinsing then it should be fine the use Meguires Sponge Applicator to apply the polish. (After i use the Sponge applicator i tend to use microfibre cloth to buff it off).
