see i thought option 3 was the better due to the quad core?

they both use the ddr3 ram and have the same gfx card just the hdd and processor are different...

is the gfx card ok? I do nothing more hardcore than cod 4, i use photoshop cs3 and fruity loops xl quite a bit too...

Number 2 fo' sho!

Decent graphics card, although if you want more than 3.5GB of memory you will need to upgrade the OS to 64-bit Vista or get Windows 7.

Option 2... Core i7 is way more overclockable with just air cooling My mate runs his at 4GHz by just playing with the fsb and stuff... no overvolting and just a fan cooler.

Core i7 + win7 = WIN!

Number 2 as it is is a true quad core processor rather than a double dual core like 3.

The 920 i7 is based on the Nehalmen and is an awesome chip range, with the 920 and the 940 being the upgradeable starter chips and the 965 the ultimate powerhouse. The new i7 boards will have all the top features too, like esata, and allow crossfire technology for your gaming if you want to run 2 HD4850s for super streaming power.

What speed hard drives? If you chose #2 you'd need to buy a sound card.

hard drive are normaly 7200RPM

and it should have a sound card built in to the mobo. if not you can pick a gd one up cheep anyway

if you got the money go for a solid state hard drive (SSD), runs silent, virtually no heat , no moving parts so more reliable

Yup they are, but without seeing what type/speed of drives are in each PC it's impossible to say which will be the fastest.

The sound is on board, that's why I said he'd need to buy a soundcard and i wouldn't go for anything less than an X-Fi card from Creative.

hahaha

None of the pc's are the perfect spec for the price, however option 2 will be the fastest.

I'd go with number 2. The i7 Chip.

the i7 option 2 might not be available now, plus i found out last night its refurbished and only comes with a 60 day warranty whereas the other 3 come with a 3 year onsite warranty and are brand new

Depends on what price you are getting it for, most of the time you can build a decent PC cheaper.

I got AMD Quad Core phenom 9950 2.6ghz each, 2GB XMS2 DDR2 Gamers RAM and Motherboard for £250ish HDD's 500gb are about £40, an ok graphics card for about £100 cases are about £20+ DVD drives about £15+ sound cards not needed as most on board ones are ok monitors are about £100+ depends on the size.

See it might look dearer but for what you get it works out better than a pre-built one, and you still get a warranty as all parts are covered for 12 months.

Id still have option 2.

i7 is still new technology so you will be more future proof with up to date processor. Although quad cores run better and for today and this and next year's standard quad cores are the processors to have rather than i7's as i.e games and dev's are working their next gen games to be able to run 4 cores rather than their 2 core setup.
i7's are relatively the same but newer, but a lot of reviews (while back now) said that it's better performance wise to go with quad than i7.
Also why go vista? vista is nice, but windows 7 is being released next year save the money and buy better upgrades i.e memory or hdd or better gcard.
vista is old now and windows 7 will take over. keep xp where it's fuller is stability and later down the line get windows 7.
saving yourself £100 to spend on upgrades

Remember to look at motherboards too. these are underated. Having the right motherboard will decide if your machine is better than someone elses. my mobo has built in HD surround sound so i don't need an audio card leaving space for anything extra.

think realistically, not about having the bigger dick. it's what suits YOUR needs best and not over doing it. i.e save money on OS and spend more on upgrades you will benefit from more.
